I think it's their deep rooted social norm and culture, they are very straight no "bs" type of people, they just say anything coming out from their feelings regardless of bias or not, hurting your feelings or not, they just say it. Not the kind of you can immediately befriend with. They exhibit more of this personality online

While there may be some similarities with Indian cuisine due to shared ingredients, the flavors, techniques, and cultural influences make Sri Lankan food unique. We just came back from Valparaiso and Santiago. I have been to the patagonia region years ago. And i HATED Chile this time around. I have been to 27+ countries and by far, this is the one country that wins the prize for perfunctory and rude service. They make an effort but minimally. I found it weird and unsettling. I tried to be positive but for every one decent interaction (what would be passable in Canada), it would be followed by several aggressively annoyed service. We start with smiles and with friendly banter. Usually flat responses. There were moments wr would walk into a cute cafe and be excited and then met with no service. Then we’d catch someone and they would be surprised. We had to ask a few tines if they were open. Lol. Or the person would sell us a resto and be friendly then the service staff are rude. Then why did you invite us? Haha. That was a wasted $6K 6 day trip. The joke was even the dogs were unfriendly! Lol. We’re not white but speak Spanish. We figured it was racism. We dress well and have good manners due to our upbringing. But I suppose that is not enough. Lol.

Thanks for sharing your honest experience, Robertinho! Traveling is such a personal journey, and I can imagine how disheartening it must have felt to face challenges like that, especially after having high hopes for your trip. It’s definitely tough when service and hospitality don’t meet expectations. That said, your perspective really highlights the importance of how cultural differences and individual experiences shape our travels. Every trip-even the frustrating ones-adds to our story and gives us a richer understanding of the world, doesn’t it? I truly appreciate you taking the time to share this here. It’s always refreshing to hear authentic insights, and I hope your next destination brings nothing but amazing memories. If you’re open to it, maybe Chile deserves another chance someday, or perhaps it’ll make the next place you visit even sweeter. Thanks for being part of this community-you’ve got an incredible way of telling a story!

We are planning to visit in 1st half of April. We are visiting the south west and central regions. What would be the weather like?
@ArvindSarin7 күн бұрын
In April, the weather in the southwest and central regions of Sri Lanka is typically warm and sunny, but you can expect occasional rain showers, especially in the central highlands. The southwest coast (like Galle, Mirissa) will be mostly dry, with temperatures ranging from 27°C to 32°C (81°F to 89°F). In the central region (places like Kandy, Nuwara Eliya), it might be a bit cooler, but still warm, around 20°C to 28°C (68°F to 82°F). It’s always good to pack light, breathable clothing and a light rain jacket just in case! Enjoy your trip!

What "histroric" hills? What is historic in the small hills? OK, I stopped watching, you are an idiot, you say bullshit even at the first 10 seconds.
@ArvindSarin11 күн бұрын
Vajdahunyad Castle in Budapest's City Park is literally on the Pest side, and yes, it's historic, built in 1896 to celebrate the millennium of Hungary's existence-very much a castle, even if it started as temporary structures for an expo. And about those "historic hill castles," I guess you've missed the Buda Castle, which, oh wait, sits on a hill and has been there since the 13th century. Anyway, thanks for watching, even if it was just for the first few seconds ;)

Well, I live in Budapest. The atmosphere compared to Barcelona is extremely low for me. I get it, Barcelona is flooded with tourists and pickpocketers, which is the biggest downside for me too. But the city itself is more beutiful for me, especially the buildings (I even like Grácia a lot) and it is on a coastline with "mountains" (Tibidabo and Montjuic). Our historical buildings could be beautiful if we would have the money to restorate them. It is just sad every time I walk there.

That is the most Hungarian thing. To complain. And I say that as a Hungarian. From Budapest. This glamorous city was literally flattened in 1945 and locals - including my grandma who was 50kg - had to rebuild the rubble for in exchange for food tickets. Then came a nice Soviet dictatorship who made sure not to restore it properly. I think we are lucky it is in a shape that can be improved unlike historic Warsaw which was pulled down. Cheers!

Barcelona valóban nagyszerű város, de amit leírtál abból süt a gyarmati gondolkodás és az idegenajnározás.
@ArvindSarin11 күн бұрын
The tourist influx and pickpockets do take away from the experience, but the Barcelona's charm is undeniable. Budapest has it's own architectural wonders, but it's disheartening when you see them not getting the tender loving care they deserve due to funding issues.

The resilience of Hungarians, especially after WWII and under Soviet rule, is something to be admired. Given it's past, it's really fortunate that so much has been preserved or reconstructed at all. Cheers to hoping for better days and perhaps seeing Budapest fully restored to its former glory :)

@ArvindSarin10 күн бұрын
I've felt that romantic vibe myself, especially when walking along the Danube at sunset. But I think it's like any big city; there are safe areas, and there are places where you need to keep your guard up. I've had some wonderful, secure moments here, but I've also heard stories and seen things that remind me not to get too starry-eyed. It's a beautiful place, no doubt, but like anywhere, it's a mix of the good and the not-so-good.
@georgschrotten6229 күн бұрын
True. There are slums in Budapest. There are criminals, beggars and filth. Not that much as in Paris or Rome but still has it. But indeed Budapest is one of the safest capital in Europe. Actually tourists have less to worry about. 'Troublemakers' typicly don't harass or insult tourists. That is why foreigners always say they had nothing to worry about in Budapest even in the middle of the night. Cuz robbers, brawlers and such target the locals not tourists. Pickpocketing is not a common thing in Budapest anymore. It used to be a thing but not anymore. Actually I didn't hear a single case in the last 15 years.

@OliviaHacking-kf7px From Hungary, what the first comment says is partly true, altough the government represses some protests (beating under age kids) and cut some human rights not to mention the corruption, Budapest is still a very progressive and free city, so you should have no worry visiting it. Remember the most basic rule of traveling that governments don't equal people especially if they are not a full democracy like Hungary.

You've tried mostly Sri Lankan foods. It's important to note that Sri Lanka is a country with diverse ethnicities, each contributing to its culinary landscape. While many dishes have been influenced by other cultures, we have given them a distinct Sri Lankan touch, and we proudly call them all Sri Lankan foods. However, if your goal is to experience dishes unique to Sri Lanka, you should focus on Sinhalese cuisine. The Sinhalese are the only ethnic group found exclusively in Sri Lanka, and their traditional dishes truly represent the island's unique culinary identity. It’s natural to notice similarities if you’ve tried dishes introduced to Sri Lanka by Tamils, Muslims, or other communities, as these foods often have roots in broader regional cuisines. For instance, saying you find similarities between dosa in India and dosa in Sri Lanka might seem obvious, as they share a common origin. While these dishes are now integral to Sri Lanka’s food culture and widely available even in rural areas, they might not be the best representation of what sets Sri Lankan cuisine apart. Experiencing unique Sinhalese dishes can indeed be a challenge for a foreigner due to their unavailability. Even for locals, some of these foods are seasonal or primarily found in village areas. It's not something you can typically try every day or stumble upon while walking through the streets. If you’re planning a visit and want to explore these unique dishes, thorough research and pre-arrangements are essential. You could connect with a local family and request them to prepare specific Sinhalese dishes for you. Even if it’s off-season, they may find a way to source the ingredients and prepare these special dishes during your visit. This approach would allow you to experience flavors that are distinctly Sri Lankan and unlike anything you’ve tasted in India. I hope your next visit allows you to discover these hidden culinary gems and truly appreciate the unique taste of Sinhalese cuisine!
@ArvindSarin16 күн бұрын
Next time I’m in Sri Lanka, I’ll definitely connect with locals and try more unique Sinhalese dishes. Appreciate the tips!
