I used a white card base but if you use a different colour, like gold, behind the sleigh, you’ll have the colour peaking through the tiny pierced design.

Do you have any advice for taking photos with a cell phone?

Hi Jean. Photographing with a cell phone can be a little challenging since it could cast nasty shadows on the object. A way to avoid that would be to have a strong source of light - ring lights are best - and then hold your phone at a bit of an angle coming in from the opposite side of the light source. You’ll also have to hold your phone at an angle to the plane you’re photographing on. Straight down shots are usually not good so holding the phone at an angle will eliminate the shadow on the object you’re photographing. I hope that makes sense. 😊

I have no issues using the envelope maker. I think your problem would be solved if you used the other side of the trimmer when lining up the score lines to snip out the triangles. Good luck.
