Hours and hours of finding fake morels and they are great at that but not one video of a dog finding a real wild morel. I’m a believer but I just have not seen one video of actual real time results finding actual morels

Do the dogs confuse the scent of other types of mushrooms with morels? Or is morel scent unique enough?

@@didaloca in my opinion it’s unique enough. I have never had a dog hit on any other mushrooms.

If I’m using reconstituted dried mushrooms and refrigerating the reconstituted mushroom while not in use, how long can I use it? Thank you in advance for any help!
@wilsonsdogtraining19296 ай бұрын
When Im training for morels I train twice a day. I only use one mushroom for 4 trainings so 2 days.. I worry about the smell changing if kept too long. I error on the side of caution and only keep for 36 hours. Could probably keep it longer but a dogs sense of smell is amazing so any slight change in smell might confuse them or even worse change what the target oder is to them..

Hi, thank you for such a great detailed guide! And also just curious, why morels? Cause yes, truffles don't grow anywhere. But for example here in Ukraine we appreciate boletus edulis. Also I know that sometimes dogs find chanterelles. But morels is not obvious mushroom to me. So is it expensive or widespread in your area or is it just your hobby and you just like how it tastes?

Great video! Enjoyed seeing your dog work. The audio when working inside your garage could stand improvement to reduce the echo/hollow sound. You might want to consider placing the mic closer to your face, or else adding some rock wool to the walls & ceiling to deaden some of the reverb.

Well that's a pretty cool trick. My dad had a weimaraner named Duke that he trained for hunting. One day he showed us Duke's bird handling qualities. Dad took a walk about a 100 yards or more while we were all outside. He placed a chicken egg and set it down in the middle of the gravel road and when he returned, he called Duke over to smell his hand, then gave the command, "Bird! Bird!" Duke had not been observing my dad, and when he got scent of the egg he followed the scent trail until he located the egg, picked it up on his mouth, and delivered it to my father, unbroken.

About free shaping - my dog tends to lie down, because he thinks that is the wanted behavoir for eveything. 😅 (and then he quickly gives up/get distracted - he's 10 months old). Do you have a tip for re-training this? 🙏😃
@Heather-kz7tn10 ай бұрын
Maybe just rewarding him for sitting also? Then help him differentiate between sitting and laying down. I know this works with "Quiet/Bark" when I did this with my dog, but he would always do some crazy roll over's thinking that is what I was going to ask him to do next.
