This race really how fantastic Trevor Hendy is at his best in difficult waves. Unbelievable.

Thanks Dave for putting these on your channel. Remember seeing an advertisement for video tapes of the Ocean Man series to buy in a lifesaving magazine back in the day. Always wondered where the series had their races location wise. Now I know thanks to your effort. Good work !! 👍

You rented the skis and the gear at the spot, right? :) Great footage. Wish we could see the speed on those runners.. up to 16-17 km/h, or what do you reckon? What did your GPS say?
@DavidLoosen7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I rented it at the spot! Here: facebook.com/groups/213473788794518/?fref=ts ..the runs were actually around 18 km/h, max. speed on that day was 21 km/h. Small but good fun and easy to get! Great spot!

hi david, just one question. Where did you rent this racing mal? What about rental costs? thanks in advance
@DavidLoosen8 жыл бұрын
Hey! I rented it at catcompany.eu/ in Las Playitas. Not sure about the prices for a day, as I rented a surf ski and a racing mal for 10 days..

Thanks for uploading. Amazing action but no carnage in the surf ski leg. That would have made it more exciting. Great commentary by Craig Hummer as I have watched a few videos where the waves were absolutely massive and he did a fantastic job calling the competitors home. Any more great videos like this to come please?

Piha Beach is actually the safest beach on Auckland's west coast due to the shelter provided by Camel Rock, (Taitomo Island). Any claim that there are more rescues and more drownings at Piha is blatantly false. Yes events held in Piha can be exciting, but that is because the unique set up at Piha allows events to continue in big surf when they would have to be cancelled in similar swells at other beaches. According to Piha Surf Lifesaving Club, noone has ever drowned between the flags at Piha. Enjoy.

Who is that American commentator who keep calling surf skis kayaks? You would have thought they could have got someone who actually knows a bit about the sport.
@DavidLoosen10 жыл бұрын
The commentator is actually a former US ironman who used to race in the uncle toby´s series. I know, it sounds weird, when someone calls them kayaks, but i think it´s sometimes easier to understand for the TV-audience who are not in the sport themselves.. oh, and his name is Craig Hummer!
