Ruby is the Trickster's harbinger and everything we were told in season 1's finale is just a decoy. After rewatching the whole season many times, there is just too much paranormal and unexplained stuff for me to believe the finale. The snow, the way a memory can break through reality, as the doctor said memory is time and time is memory and when reliving Christmas day 2004 through the time window, the doctor says 'my memory of this keeps changing, time keeps changing' so unless there's something I missed, there is in fact something wrong with the timelines and that remains unexplained. And who loves to play with the timelines? The Trickster. I also have a theory related to 73 yards: Firstly The trickster is the god of traps, well that fairy circle sure looks like a trap to me, a trap which messes with the timelines btw. but more importatntly: Kate says to Ruby: 'this timeline might be suspended along your event' or something along those lines, suggesting that there are many timelines, and Ruby by walking into that fairy circle stepped into/created another timeline. It's like in this new era, time has become as fragile as reality in a way where timelines can overlap each other therefore allowing old ruby from 73 yards' timeline to warn her younger self in the main timeline (similar how rtd approached parallel worlds in his first era where they could be crossed and intertwine with each other), so considering that, my theory is that all the events happening in 73 yards is a reflection of what will happen with Ruby in the main timeline (where the doctor is): Mad Jack being the Trickster and old ruby (the lady stalking) being Ruby herself as the Trickster's Harbinger. From what we know harbingers are a warning to a God's coming. Well the moment Mad Jack was 'unbound' (the birth of Roger ap Gwilliam), when Ruby stepped into the fairy circle, the old lady appears as somewhat of a harbinger since she's 'used' to vanquish Mad Jack, she also warns Ruby not to step at the end of the episode. (Also probably unrelated and just a coincidence but we know that Ruby's father's name is William Benjamin Garnet which I can't help but think that it's related to Roger ap Gwilliam. ''Ap'' meaning ''son of'' so Roger son of G. William (Garnet William). This would suggest that Ruby and Roger ap Gwilliam are somewhat related) Also Maestro says something about ''the oldest one''. Is it Sutekh? Because Sutekh is referred to as ''the one who waits'' and when speaking of this ''oldest one'', Maestro says: ''he couldn't have been there, the night of her birth'', I believe this follows the scene shown in this clip. So is Maestro really speaking about Sutekh here? Or did they know that Sutekh was here the whole time but instead was surprised to learn that some other being was present, hence her reaction when hearing this melody ''hidden deep inside of Ruby's soul''. The Trickster's melody. The Meep also makes a reference to ''The Boss'' and as we know The Trickster loves to have ''slaves'' to help him with his work like in TSJA with the Graske. In my head cannon I also think that even Rogue is in on it, since he too makes a mention of a ''new boss'' and also his reaction when seing 14th face (tennant) was more one of recognizing who that is and thinking ''oh shit'' rather than just a ''wow that's crazy'' reaction. Because 14th face would've been the description given by the Meep to this ''Boss''. After this reveal, Rogue is now suddenly working with the doctor and helps him without saying much about himself still but he just accepts to help the doctor. It feels like there's a sudden switch in his behaviour after ''recognising'' 14th face. And he even gives the doctor his ring at the end which could as well be some sort of tracker. Now this Boss could also be something else entirely or even Mrs Flood herself! But there's still a chance that it might be the Trickster. He is the god of traps after all and supposedly 'there's always a twist at the end' All of this might just be me reaching but I really can't help but feeling like I've been misled by the Finale. Especially the 'she pointed her finger to name her', no, she pointed her finger towards the TARDIS, and messed with the timeline the moment she did so, I also suspect that she clearly saw sutekh and maybe that's why she did something to time, or split the timelines. Just like the way the trickster points his finger in TSJA to rewrite time. Everything is a miss lead in season 1 and the answers we are given at the end are too! And we're all being fooled by the god of traps! the Trickster! (at least I hope so).

My main issue with comparing them is that the trickster theme is very dissonant and minor. Ruby’s “song” finishes the phrase and doesn’t have the same dissonance. So if there is a connection I would guess Ruby is more of the opposite of the trickster

I think she’ll be a nod to Clara who got reincarnated in different timelines. The Doctor doesn’t recognize her face anymore. Ruby’s ‘mystery’ will be something new and none of us saw coming like Clara’s part!
