Hello, I water my Caudata about once a week but everyone's conditions vary. So mine is getting fertilized with a tiny bit of slow release and then MCU orchid fertilizer at every watering or every other. I also use Orchid leaf fertilizer spray if I am not fertilizing their water. In the last 6 weeks my plant has put out 4 or 5 new leaves. Mine is much smaller so nowhere near blooming. The flowers are so beautiful. Did you try smelling them at night. Most Hoya let fragrance out at night for night pollination by moths and bats. Honestly one of the most adorable of all Hoya blooms imho. You may want to water more and fertilize when you do. I use grow lights on mine. If that doesn't help you could try a Sulfur treatment. Sometimes they have microscopic mites we can't see & it stunts their growth. Just a thought. Take care, 💚🪴🍃🌿🌵🌱☘️

Thank you for all your recommendations 🪴! I am pretty sure I tried smelling them at night but didn’t get anything. I have to take better care of it to let it thrive and I’m pretty sure I have a flat mite infestation since some Hoyas have been alive for over a year without growth (unless they are affected by other factors like being too cold, too little fertilizer and water etc.)

@LittleLeafSF Жыл бұрын
If you put it in a spot with really bright indirect light outside it might sun stress, maybe try out a spot that gets some direct sun during the day? I believe mine started out cold stressed since it was in a north facing window which is the lowest light in my place and it was colder. Now it’s in my greenhouse cabinet under grow lights.

Lovely blooms. I'm guessing this hoya needs more water than once a month. I have a cultivar which is smaller leaves but has velvety shin on it. I grow it leca semihydro set up and it enjoys water a lot. I can't wait until it blooms but the scent as you described it put me off a little bit. Thanks for sharing and happy growing.
@LittleLeafSF2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I agree with the watering and am lucky mine is a dry tolerant plant 😅 Thanks for sharing your care. I’m sure more heat and humidity would help mine grow more as well. I had to put my nose right in front of it to smell it so it wasn’t strong for me. I wonder if different varieties can have different scents (or at least slightly).

Normsly I only go for the fragrance but I would go for this hoyas due to its rare nice veiny leaves and coloration, but what about their individual fragrances, to me that’s the most significant so long as they don’t smell unnatural , like soda pop or bubble gums or such
@LittleLeafSF2 жыл бұрын
Ah nice that fragrance is your main preference! I'm impatient with waiting for flowers to bloom so I usually go for unique foliage :). I haven't had many veiny ones bloom yet but like the lemon-limey scent of the Callistophylla. It's not in this video but my elliptica has a wonderful scent and has a nice pattern on the leaves too (not sure if the different ellipticas have different scents but I believe mine is the round leaf form).

Is Hoya Larissa....the same as Hoya Irina? The leaves look the same...and the parents seem to be the same?
@LittleLeafSF2 жыл бұрын
Good question! They seem to both be crosses between finalysonii and meredithii but look slightly different. Irina looks to be more rounded and Larissa is longer and more pointed at the end (both may be from Epiphytica from Thailand). If you look up the hashtag hoyairina on Instagram one of the top hits shows two broken off leaves comparing the two, but a lot of the Irina pictures look exactly like my Larissa/Larisa so maybe they are the same or some are mislabeled?
@mikekufner11922 жыл бұрын
I know this is an old video but I have a question! I cleaned my leaves with a rag and water prior to using neem oil. I looked the plant over with a hand lens beforehand and didn't see any pests. I sprayed it with neem oil as a preventative afterwards but after the neem dried there were white dots on the plants that comes off if i brush over it gently. I just cleaned dust and stuff off with a rag...is that normal or is that maybe a pest? The leaves looked clean before I did it! The plant is neon so dust etc. is harder to see on lighter colored plants.
@LittleLeafSF2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Hard to guess what it is without a picture. Are they raised dots or marks on the leaves? Are they moving around? Maybe it's residue from the neem oil after drying, residue from your water if you have hard water, something from your rag (?) etc.? Since you inspected the plant before, it seems like they wouldn't be pests unless they came up from the soil or you left the plant outside for a while.
@mikekufner11922 жыл бұрын

@LittleLeafSF2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I've had some hoyas that didn't start growing until after a year. If there aren't that many roots, maybe it's mainly working on those? How's fertilizing, light and humidity levels? Not a fact and possibly risky if the roots aren't established, but sometimes I feel like giving plants new soil/sphagnum moss help waken them up (or maybe my old soil had too much salt build up). Hope it wakes up for you soon!

Thanks so much Jackie! Yes the silver band is in the white planter. it’s actually not as lush as it was in the video now and got crispy leaves but doing alright (thinking winter, possible neglect, it might be root bound). Usually it thrives more in the summer warmth (and maybe with fertilizer). I might wait until it gets prettier 😅 but I’ll keep it in mind for a future video!

It thrives for me during the warmer and longer months in the summer (it doesn't get that warm in San Francisco) and then dies back in the winter. Not sure if I just got one with strong genes but is basically the only calathea (or one of few) I can keep a live 😅. It gets crispy edges often.

This was really helpful! My calathea ornata was not doing too well and I thought it was my water until I went to wipe the dust off the leaves and found eggs! I didn’t even realize there was something on it because I couldn’t see any webbing! Low and behold they were under my leaves and the only visible webbing was around the eggs patches. I feel so bad and I’m gonna try my hardest to save her. Lesson learned

Same! I literally have JUST realised my English ivy has spider mites,but it's only because I've seen someone's comment elsewhere, saying to take a flashlight and shine it on the underside of the leaves and bam! Some tiny webbing and white eggs that I did not see before doing this 😭
@LittleLeafSF2 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear! Yes sometimes they are super hard to see. I also found out that there are pests called false spider mites that are super microscopic (realized I had them when my hoya was scarring on the undersides due to all the bugs biting it!). Hope you can save it! Consistent monitoring/treating makes a big difference.
@LittleLeafSF2 жыл бұрын
Oh good pointer about using a flashlight, will have to try that. Hope you can get rid of them quickly! 🍀
@OfficailSamMarieZie2 жыл бұрын
I just found a second plant damaged by spider mites. They're in a huge tent with a fan that runs constantly. I have three sets of utility shelves, loaded with plants. Do you think there's a way to treat the whole tent simultaneously or and I going to have to wait til spring to clean EVERYTHING
@LittleLeafSF2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear! Are you asking about waiting for spring since it’s cold in your area? I would treat the infested plants asap since they can continue the damage quickly and you don’t want them to keep reproducing and spreading to other plants. I would also isolate the ones where you see the mites. If I had time I would also proactively inspect the plants around the infected ones too and maybe treat them as well. If you don’t want to use neem indoors, the other method I’ve tried is wiping down the leaves with rubbing alcohol with some water. With these methods monitoring constantly helps a lot since there may still be eggs that were missed. Good luck!

How do you grow this in moss? I keep trying to grow it in soil and have had no luck :(
@LittleLeafSF2 жыл бұрын
It's in a north facing window in a terra cotta pot and I water it when the moss is almost dry. Is yours a smaller plant? If so, putting it in a greenhouse environment like a plastic bag or a clear box would help it establish (airing it out every few days maybe so it gets some air flow).

I have an Alocasia Zebrina Reticulata and I adore that plant. I didn't know what I was buying last summer and got it for pretty cheap, but it is definitely my favorite Alocasia. It only has two leaves right now. I think it has to do with the lack of light due to winter. Hoping all of your babies thrive again soon.
@LittleLeafSF3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Definitely one of my favorites as well. It was cool to see the Alocasia Jacklyn/Sulawesi pop up pretty recently for sale which has a very similar design. I don’t have many Alocasias but agree it seems like they are sensitive to the winter weather. I’m probably drenching the soil too much when watering too so I’ll try to lightly water next time.
@sherryporsch93493 жыл бұрын
Contrary too popular belief, I let my Alocasia get dry in between watering. They seem too like it. Good luck with your Majestic. 💚
