I would be curious to hear from a scout why Melendez didn’t go in the first round. One of the better college hitters I have seen in several years.

I believe I saw they think he has a long swing, average/below average D, and he isn’t 18 like some prospects when drafted. He definitely would get beat the most by high heat, most balls he crushes in the highlight reel are low in the zone, and pitches only get faster from college through the minors to the pros.

Good interview. Next time ask him about Scott Kazmir's comeback after he was released by the Angels. Poppe was the main guy behind that. It's a great story.
