Is there any residual that can affect primer/powder? Do you need to wipe/clean cases prior to reloading?
@RexemAustralia17 күн бұрын
@@FlitchMac You ALWAYS need to get case lube off cases, as the case itself requires friction on the chamber wall to not push all the force onto the bolt. Any lube on a case can increase bolt thrust by 50% or more (Reference: Hornady engineers.) We 100% recommend cleaning cases prior to use. As for residue affecting primers and powders, as it’s not petroleum abased we don’t believe it will if you use it correctly (as shown) and clean after sizing operations you should have no problems. After applying the product let it flash off and dry for a few minutes before sizing.

Lanotec lanolin oil mixed with metho or 100% isopropyl alcohol in a pump bottle (bug spray or similar) is the go for extremely cheap and great case lube. I have a 1ltr bottle of it and it will last me a lifetime. Give it a spray and let the alcohol disperse the oil and give it a tumble in a dish and evaporate and your ready to go.

Agree wholeheartedly about the HOWA’s; I too have a safe full of them. Cheap, reliable, easy to work on and there’s plenty of aftermarket stuff available for them. In fact, when the Police came round for their safe inspection, he said, “You’re the bloke with all the HOWA’s.” Seriously considering going down this road. What was the original rifle/caliber you rebarrelled into the Creedmoor? And how did you not crack that plastic magazine box? I cracked mine to buggery when I torqued mine down (55 inch pounds) in my 7.62x39 Mini Action. And how do you sort the brass out? Factory brass is somewhat expensive when you can get it. I have found LEE dies I can get from America. Better to run a parent case through the dues, or just fire-form? Cheers.

Nice discussion’s! The lock rings the Lee ones I have a set haven’t tried them yet! However, Frankford Arsenal I see has similar type called Dielocker Rings set. Three rings, torx screwdriver/allen wench style for set screw and a head wench for fitting the slots on top to tighten. The set screw squeezes the dielocker band and not damaging the threads. Anyway interesting! The new chronographs the power is by a small rechargeable battery which only provides so much power to produce the radar. Thus it needs to extrapolate distance after it calculates what it can read say 100 yards vs 200yds or that what I believe of the science. Just a thought. Waiting on the videos comparing Garmin, Labradar, True Ballistic and Caldwell Velociradar

@ Humm, there was another video showing shots getting picked up, he even used the recoil trigger on his rifle. Will be interesting to see if yours works or just a faulty unit you received. Good luck, hope all works out on testing and reviews. The Garmin I found the display too dim, the high should have been their low point in my observation. Indoors I had other shooters being picked up and liked the recoil trigger option on Velociradar. Never tried the new Labradar FX. Thanks for the update and input.

In New Zealand the .222 was offered to professional deer cullers and meat hunters, again promoted as the ideal medium game cartridge. Many hundreds of Red deer were taken in NZ with the .222 and Norma ammunition. This practice was in vogue when game numbers were at an epidemic.

Stick with the Garmin, we all use it at our range. The FX is 'too little too late'. Twice as bulky and heavy by the looks. And the Calldwell looks like cheap junk. The screen looks huge, yet the active part of the screen is a tiny. Sure, you can shoot over the top of a Garmin for downrange velocities, but if you hit the device don't blame Garmin. Why not protect it with a slightly angled Biseloy steel target, lying flat in front of it. For downrange velocities our ShotMarker targets record this. Pretty sure Silver Mountain targets do this also. The downrange data quality is good for calculating BC's with velocity string SD's the same as what we record at the muzzle.

Just FYI, the 6mm TCU (Thompson Center Ugalde) rifle you mentioned is a 24" Swan barrel on a 1978 vintage Sportco model 33. I've run 80gr Rexem pills at 3025fps from it but have backed off to 2900 for better accuracy. Very mild recoil but hitting 1500ftlbs of muzzle energy with that reduced load. Compare that to the 300 blackout running 120gr supersonic ammo which delivers 2259fps and 1350ftlbs of energy. The 6mm TCU case is the same as the 223 parent cartridge @ 1.75" (longer than the 300 blackout @ 1.368). The 7mm TCU was released in 1980, not sure how long afterwards the 6mm variant hit the shelves. It was originally designed for the Thompson Contender handguns as a silhouette cartridge.

Great video - I have had great experiences with G96 - Its been the only cleaner that I have used until recently. For copper, I've used Sweets 7.62 with great success - I determined via borescoping that dwell time is key with sweets (around 10 minutes is ideal). Recently switched to Boretech Cu-2 due to no ammonia and easier to use in unventilated areas. I clean my nicest firearm back to bare metal - every shoot. Can you do a video on lubricants? It will be hard to find; but I'd be keen to see you get your hands on Archoil AR4400

@@deanos1993 hey hey- there are a million different ones available and we can’t test them all sadly, but we love feedback of good results so send us a video on Facebook and we’ll come back to this at some stage. As for lubricants I’m currently running WD 40 brand lithium spray grease very sparingly on my bolts to see how it goes. So far I’m very very happy with it, but aren’t sure how good it is for corrosion protection. I’ll run it side by side with a very light film of ATF on another bolt and a conventional lube on the 223 and see which one I like best. Maybe another video to come haha!

Hey hey Paul. Yeah it was really interesting and pretty scary early on, but we had heaps of fun doing it. The G91 bore solvent works really well from the shop, and works on carbon as well. From the auto shop so far brake cleaner is good on carbon but not copper, and the good paint stripper from Bunny's (See online reviews, we used the yellow one.) removes copper and carbon. Hoppes does both too all be-it slowly. Part 2 we'll put it all together. Ed's red does not attack copper either but lubricates and protects well. It's VERY slow acting on carbon. Paint stripper is 27 dollars per liter, just make sure you clean it out really well after. Water and alcohol patches :) Still not sure about how safe BAM is... will update after a few days of sitting.
