One of the early real compelling aspects of Skyrim back in 11/11: the potential of the caves. Knowing how deep they could go (some leading into the Underdark, even) and have multiple exits. Plus the dead that developed the deeper and deeper you went, just hoping there was a back entrance. The ambience was far superior to Oblivion already.

Riverwood is the perfect village, great location close to a city, could sit by the river all day in good weather
