Hi Dan, congrats with your 50km/hr threshold! I am on a Gong YpraS XL 1200cm2 and my topspeed is 35km/hr. I still got a long way to go, but start to nail the tack from switch after 100 tries :-)

What is the trick to go more downwind? I feel like when I try to go fast it just keeps cranking upwind. Pushing like 50 km/h and it barely wants to go downwind (I think it might have to do with my harness lines though. Feels like the point of balance is too far to the back so I cant open my wing properly). Do you steer it downwind with your body or your wing?
@dengordoАй бұрын
@@obvioustrash7833 in sailing terms it's broad reach I said downwind to simplify it but it's not really correct. You push through your front foot to steer the board away from the wind and power the front of your wing to gain speed. I wouldn't use harness as it's really sketchy because any gust can send you flying and you don't want to be hooked in at that speed. Canting the board (leaning) is important for stability. It's very counter intuitive at first but you just need to force yourself and it will start making sense.

Hey mate, which board and foil you use ? You did great advise on wing - please advise on board and foil
@dengordo4 ай бұрын
Hi, things have changed a bit over a year. But mid length boards are the latest trend in wingfoil racing because they accelerate better. Something that can float you if the wind drops but it depends on conditions and skills. For course racing a slightly bigger foil for better upwind performance, for slalom - the smallest foil you can get up on in given conditions. I can't recommend a particular brand as it depends on availability in your region but ideally try at demo events or buy a second hand.

I'm 82kg and 1250 is my light wind foil. My wife uses 1700 as she's learning but it's a bit too big for me, only when it's almost no wind below 8 knots. I'd go for XS-940 for stronger winds, it's my favourite foil for almost any conditions. Maybe X-1050 but I've never tried it.

Thanks! It's very tricky with harness lines in gusty conditions but I believe the foil can make a huge difference. Some are super stable in gusts and no problem using harness. I feel like I can push more through the harness but crashing at that speed is something I'm really scared of and my foil reacts instantly which doesn't help.

Thanks for this great video. I have the same fuselage and problem as you. I ordered a helicoil kit M6x1. I didn’t realise the x1 meant the length is 6mm. so I assume using one on both sides will not be enough since the fuselage is 22mm deep. I believe the next size up is x1.5 so 9mm - although using 2 will still be less than 22mm - do you think that will work? I assume I can’t use M6x2 as that would be 24mm - thanks!
@dengordo6 ай бұрын
Thanks! M6x1 means diameter of 6mm and a pitch of 1mm which is standard for M6. The length of the insert doesn't depend on the pitch. 2x 6mm long ones theoretically should be enough to make connection strong again, just insert them at both ends and not deep inside for the screw to hold onto. I'm not a professional, but this is what I'd do. Good luck!
