Hi there. I belong to a Mining background. I wish to become a Water OIT. Can I study through the books provided by the website and write an exam or do I need to pursue a diploma from an institution in Water treatment and management and then only I can write an exam. I am currently in Ontario. Thanks
@WaterMovement
@WaterMovement Ай бұрын
Hi there! Great to hear about your interest in becoming a Water Operator-in-Training (OIT). In Ontario, you can apply for an OIT certification without pursuing a diploma, as long as you meet the minimum requirements set by the Ontario Water Wastewater Certification Office (OWWCO). This typically involves passing the entry-level drinking water operator exam and completing mandatory training. Studying resources and guides can definitely help prepare for the exam. For detailed information about training providers, certification bodies, costs, prerequisites, and more, we recommend visiting the Water Movement platform. www.watermovement.ca/careers It's a fantastic resource to help guide you through the process. Let us know if you have any other questions!

hi sorry but do i have to put the standard solution if i wanna test another one straight after?? please respond its important
@WaterMovement
@WaterMovement Ай бұрын
No, you don’t need to use the standard solution if you want to test another sample right after. Standard solutions are only required during the calibration or verification process to ensure the turbidity meter is providing accurate readings. If the meter is already calibrated and verified, you can test your next sample directly. Just make sure: 1. The sample cell is clean and free of fingerprints or scratches. 2. The sample is well mixed (but not shaken to avoid bubbles). 3. You align the arrows on the sample cell and meter before taking the reading. Let us know if you need further clarification!

How do you ensure your dry STD is accurate if not comparing against a formazin standard?
@WaterMovement
@WaterMovement Ай бұрын
To ensure your dry standard's accuracy without comparing it to a formazin standard: 1.Manufacturer Calibration: Use a dry standard pre-calibrated and matched to your specific turbidity meter. 2. Regular Verification: Periodically compare it to a trusted wet standard, like formazin, using a calibrated device. 3. Proper Handling: Keep the standard clean, free from scratches or fingerprints, and store it in its protective case. 4. Environmental Consistency: Use the standard under recommended conditions to prevent variability. 5. Unit-Specific Use: Only use the standard with the turbidity meter it was calibrated for. 6. Documentation: Retain calibration certificates for traceability and ensure periodic re-certification by the manufacturer if needed. This approach maintains reliable measurements over time.

So question, we do our sample and it reached 8.8+ so we do 5mL sample and then 5mL distilled water, then multiple our result with 2. But let’s say it goes 8.8+ again. Would I do 2.5mL and 7.5mL distilled water, then multiple by 4? And let’s say it still reaches 8.8+. Would I now do 1.25mL sample and 8.75mL distilled, than multiple by 8? We need to settle a debate at work and our water is really yellow
@WaterMovement
@WaterMovement 2 ай бұрын
@@Jonasty00Great question! You’re on the right track with dilutions for high chlorine residuals, and your approach is logical. Here's how it works: 1. First Dilution (5mL sample + 5mL distilled water): If your reading is still 8.8+ after multiplying by 2, this indicates the chlorine residual is still too high for the range of your test. 2. Second Dilution (2.5mL sample + 7.5mL distilled water): If it again reads 8.8+, you’d multiply the result by 4. This is because the dilution factor now is 4 (the sample is 1/4 of the total volume). 3. Third Dilution (1.25mL sample + 8.75mL distilled water): If 8.8+ persists, you’d multiply by 8, as the sample now represents 1/8 of the total volume. Each dilution reduces the concentration by a factor relative to the proportion of your sample to the total volume. Continue this pattern (halving the sample volume and multiplying the result by the corresponding dilution factor) until you get a measurable reading within the range of your test. Pro Tip: If the water is very yellow, it might interfere with the accuracy of the measurement, even with a spectrophotometer. To minimize this, ensure you’re using a proper blank (such as distilled water or a zeroed sample with no chlorine) to account for the yellow tint. This helps the device differentiate between the water's natural color and the reaction caused by chlorine. Let me know if you have more questions!

Is the total head the same as the total dynamic head
@WaterMovement
@WaterMovement 3 ай бұрын
Great question! The terms can be a bit confusing. Total dynamic head (TDH) and total head are often used interchangeably, but technically, TDH refers specifically to the total head while the pump is running. It includes static head, friction losses, and any other factors affecting the system when it's operational. Total head is more of a general term for the vertical distance the water is being moved, but TDH gives you the full picture for a running system. Hope that clears it up!

That's awesome that you're interested in water! Doing a co-op in your final year of high school is a fantastic way to get hands-on experience and make connections in the field. While co-op is a great start, getting your Level 1 certification usually requires some additional training and passing an exam, which you can pursue after high school or through a water-related program at a college or technical school. I’d recommend talking to local water operators or your school counselor to explore co-op opportunities and programs that can set you on the path to earning your Level 1!

Why would there be a vacuum?
@WaterMovement
@WaterMovement Ай бұрын
A vacuum forms in the fire hydrant because the draining process removes water from the hydrant barrel, leaving air to replace the water. When you place your hand over the nozzle and create a seal, the remaining water inside creates a partial vacuum as it attempts to flow out or equalize pressure. This vacuum effect ensures that: 1. Complete Draining: It confirms the hydrant is draining properly, which prevents water from remaining inside the barrel. If water remains, it can freeze in winter, damaging the hydrant. 2. Functionality Check: The suction sound when releasing your hand indicates there’s no obstruction and that the hydrant is functioning as intended. If no vacuum or suction sound is present, it could suggest a problem with the drain valve or internal components, requiring further inspection.

@WaterMovement
@WaterMovement 3 ай бұрын
Great question! Lagoons, or treatment ponds, can have some odor, especially during certain phases of treatment or if there’s a lack of oxygen in the water. However, well-maintained lagoons are designed to minimize odors by keeping the balance of bacteria and oxygen right. Regular maintenance and proper aeration can help keep any smells under control!

Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you found the demonstration helpful. For Chlorometer details, they measure chlorine levels in water using DPD (N, N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine) tablets, which react with chlorine to give a color change. You can find DPD tablets or powder online from suppliers that specialize in water testing equipment. I recommend searching for water testing kits on platforms like Amazon or local suppliers in your region. Unfortunately, I can't provide a direct link, but a quick search for 'DPD tablets for chlorine testing' should bring up many options!

Is further education needed if i have a bachelors degree in electrical engineering from India
@WaterMovement
@WaterMovement 3 ай бұрын
Whether further education is needed depends on the career path you want to pursue. With a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, you already have a strong foundation. If you want to specialize in a specific field (like renewable energy, automation, or water management), additional certifications or a master's degree might be beneficial. If you're planning to work internationally, some countries may require additional accreditation or certification, depending on their engineering standards. In most cases, practical experience combined with continuous learning through courses, certifications, or on-the-job training can also help you advance without needing a full degree.

Greetings of the day sir I'm working as water treatment plant operator at Dubai UAE . How i get class A certificate in water treatment plant operator ? Can i get that certificate online? So please share me the link from where i get. Best regards
@WaterMovement
@WaterMovement 3 ай бұрын
Greetings! It's great to hear that you're working as a water treatment plant operator in Dubai. The process to obtain a Class A certification depends on the certifying body and the country’s requirements. Many water treatment certifications are regulated by local or international authorities, such as the International Water Association (IWA) or national regulatory boards. In Dubai, certification is usually managed by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) or similar organizations. Unfortunately, I cannot provide direct links, but I recommend reaching out to DEWA or checking their website for certification requirements. Additionally, some international programs may offer online certifications, but you'll need to verify if they are recognized in Dubai. You can also search for online courses from reputable organizations like: American Water Works Association (AWWA) International Water Association (IWA) Be sure to check if they meet the qualifications in your region. Best of luck!

Excuse me ma'am, the illustration is that water is entered from the top of the tank, what if the water is entered from the bottom of the tank, how to calculate speed against gravity
@WaterMovement
@WaterMovement 10 ай бұрын
When water is pumped into a tank from the bottom, you're dealing with the force of the incoming water and gravity. To find the speed at which the water needs to be pumped to overcome gravity, you can use Bernoulli's equation, which in a simplified form for this case can be stated as: P + 0.5 * ρ * v^2 + ρ * g * h = constant Where: - P is the pressure exerted by the pump. - ρ (rho) is the density of the water. - v is the velocity of the water. - g is the acceleration due to gravity. - h is the height the water needs to be pushed up against gravity. To determine the velocity (v), you need to solve this equation while knowing the pressure added by the pump and the height of the tank. Essentially, the velocity of the water increases as more pressure is applied by the pump and must be sufficient to overcome the gravitational pull acting against the elevation (height) the water needs to travel. This approach will give you the minimum required speed at which the water should enter the tank to ensure it reaches the top.
