So sad the track got sold to Indians who Recently turned it into a weed grow op…… after the summer nationals covid came and the promoters/ owners couldn’t afford it so they had to sell it…… nicest track in Canada and no racing

I attended every Can Am at Mosport, and some other tracks too. The best viewing areas at Mosport, esp for Can Am, have always been on the inside at the top of the entrance to corner 2 (above the marshal stand) and on the outside at the apex of corner 3. That's where races were won or lost and you got to see these great cars at their maximum acceleration, braking and cornering. These were the best corners to see when F1 ran there, too. Special mention to Mont Tremblant, also.

The ASA Cayuga races were unprecedented most likely not to be seen again. Many of the participants went onto NASCAR fame.

My Dad was a racer , he knew most of the drivers who raced at Flamboro , Sunset , Cayuga , Pinecrest ( Howie Scanell , Don Hawn , George Ruffer , Tom Milligan , Don Beiderman .... he use to help Beiderman build his cars )

Cool as that Escort is, every time I hear it in this video, it really doesn't sound like its running all that well, specifically off the line.

Oh yeah. The banjo player really says "Canada" to me LOL! Seriously though this is great as you don't see many videos of ASA races from this time period, and this one is especially nice because of all the Canadian drivers joining the ASA regulars.

I had the privilege of driving a very similar class of car in the UK many years ago. So many uniformed motor racing fans have no idea of stupidly fast these cars are. The Wikipedia quoted Shannonville lap record is more than 8 seconds slower by a McLaren 570S GT4.

Totally awesome to see and hear from the lovely Richard Spenard as winner. P.S., I painted the structure above the grandstands with College Pro Painters as a university student in 1985...

Really glad to be able see my local heroes at Shannonville after so many years. I knew Richard Spenard, and have done many a lap around the circuit, being from Carrying Place, Ontario. Solo1 and Pay-Per-Lap in the late 80s and early 90s...ahh...the memories! My experiences at SMP served me to very good effect to perform strongly in single-seaters as an amateur in the UK to a high standard. Sadly out of it for more than a decade as motor racing is rather expensive...

I remember seeing this race so, so many years ago. Totally cool cars! Seeing it at the time made me even more envious of those drivers than I already was. I did eventually have the good fortune to race single-seaters here in England in the early 2000s.

Wish we still had SuperKart racing in Ontario. I'd compete.
Gilles was killed in 1982 but his brother Jaques and son Jaques both ran limited Atlantic schedule in 1992 and 1993 driving a Swift DB4.

Man, I only realised. This series is the predecessor to the Motorola Cup, and thus, the official starting point for the IMSA MPC timeline. Thus, the MPC race at Mosport this year would be the 30th anniversary wekkend.

"The sport is more important than anything. More important than any of the people in it. Of course I say what I think. I always have, even if it upsets people like Ecclestone and Balestre. Why should I be afraid of them? The fans aren't here to see politicians and manipulators. They're here to see Alain and Mario and Carlos and me. I am very secure in my feelings about racing. I make a lot of money from it, but one thing I can tell you for sure: if the money disappeared overnight, I would still be in racing, because I love it. The entrepreneurs would be gone."
