The red button allows for the aircraft controls to be made only via the corresponding joystick. Priority left means that the left joystick will be in charge of all the steerings. It is useful for example in case of a co-pilot being incapacitated.
@RyanZ225_PC3 ай бұрын
Its not necessary for in case the first officer is incapacitated. The Airbus sidestick makes inputs algebraically so if CM1 makes a full aft position on the stick and CM2 makes a full forward inout on the stick, then the flight control position will be neutral. If for whatever reason either crew member wants to override that, simply holding down that red takeover button will do so, and trigger the aural warning like in this video. The red button is more commonly used to disconnect the autopilot

Hey look.. it’s what killed 228 people on Air France 447. If Boeing was grounded for MCAS.. Airbus should have been grounded for this. Air France 447 would have NEVER happened to a Boeing aircraft.
@RyanZ225_PC3 ай бұрын
That was due to lack of crew resource management. Airbus has multiple ways to prevent such incidents from occurring such as aural warnings (dual input) and also the crew should be adequately trained to handle situations like this, where the captain can takeover and override any inputs made by the first officer (or vice-versa). This is well documented in the FCOM. Boeing on the other hand did not train pilots not inform them of the MCAS software, which wasn’t even documented in the FCOM or any other necessary operating manuals until when the media got involved. Keep in mind that I’m not biased towards Airbus or Boeing, this is factual information which I think both companies should have acted better upon
@RyanZ225_PC3 ай бұрын
Additionally, I wouldn’t say that similar things couldn’t ever happen on Boeing. An incident involving an Air France 777 in 2022 where the captain was reportedly struggling to gain control of the aircraft was due to both pilots trying to control the aircraft with the same mechanically-linked control wheel/yoke. It’s a very similar concept except I believe it’s easier to identify than a sidestick that is not mechanically linked

@RyanZ225_PC4 ай бұрын
@@LITTLEJET Not necessarily - the aircraft is fitted with fly by wire controls so the sidestick inputs sends a signal to the flight control computers (ELAC, SEC, FAC) which process both pilot and autopilot inputs. So the size of the sidestick does not matter. What matters it the design and ergonomics of the sidestick, which is what Airbus have put into consideration when designing the cockpit.

, I been pushed to the skies by GE90, GEnx, Trent 700, Trent 1000, but for some reason have felt the most power with the Cfm56 engines on the a320. Idk if it’s because the plane is small and pilots actually put a decent amount of thrust, but whenever I sit on a larger plane, every pilot puts like 5% thrust for a smooth ride , but I don’t want a smooth ride , I want a full thrust takeoff 😢😂. That’s actually more impressive to me. How such large and heavy planes can takeoff with minimum thrust of GE90 required. Also the Trent 1000 on the a330 is one of the best aswell. You can feel it

Thrust is generally derated maybe 15-20% in ideal conditions but I think not even that much usually. In any case, whether on a narrow body or wide body, only the thrust needed is applied for fuel, noise, and wear reasons - these are all expensive for an airline. A smooth ride is not at all the reason in any case. I think the gap between max thrust and calculated take off thrust is actually smaller on wide bodies (I bet it's generally under 10% derated) due to the sheer amount of fuel and weight on board for the usually longer trips. That weight proportion might explain why you don't feel it as much proportionally though. I wonder if in places like Japan where widebodies are used for shorter domestic routes (less fuel and luggage), you would feel what you are looking for.
@Taxable_Trophy5 ай бұрын
@@ChristopherBurtraw yeah I think since smaller aircraft’s have reduced weight, you are more ought to feel the g force. With the already substantial weight an fuel, wide bodies tend to be used as efficiently as possible
@RyanZ225_PC5 ай бұрын
@@ChristopherBurtraw Interestingly enough, I heard from a bunch of pilots that derated takeoffs use more fuel as more thrust is needed to compensate during the climb out. I think I remember reading it somewhere on the A320 FCOM too
