Hi, I just watched your video where you crashed into the tree near the LZ and wanted to make a comment, it seems that all of your videos apart from this one has comments turned off. Firstly it really makes sense to turn on comments as it really helps your videos to get more viewsvalso if you had put in the description crashing into a tree it would likely have thousands of views, you should put that in the description right now. The real reason I wanted to make a comment is that I am due to start lessons in March and I just wanted to say that one of my biggest fears is whether I will be able to judge altitude to get not just a spot landing but even to get to land in the LZ and I can just imagine what happened to you in that situation happening to me. Thanks for the vids, I will give you a sub and get you some watch time. Keep em coming

I spent many hours enjoying that view above Burrough Mtn in the late 70's, early 80's. Thanks for bringing back many great memories!

Better fly a tighter pattern or you'll be hugging trees if you run into sink. If you set up over the trees east of the field you'll have plenty of space to turn up the slot.

The launch looked fine to me. Perhaps you could have pulled in slightly more when the wind lifted you off your feet but you kept it level and handled it well.

That LZ is tight! I'd feel uncomfortable landing a topless glider there.

At least you had wheels. There have been a lot worse landings at Dunlap.

I did not start video till 30 min into flight. Their was big black cloud over launch and it was pulling . I was 1500 over when I left ridge. Going to be a great year at Dunlap

And hey, thanks for your comment AND I especially thank you for your contribution to the sport, it's pioneers like you that paved the way and made this sport safer for us pilots today.

Some of my best flights were at Dunlap. On one I got up to 9800 (and NO I could not get that last 200', I spent an hour trying!). It was too hot on the ground, a little chilly at 9000+, so I spent most of the day bopping around in the 6-7k range. The temp was perfect there!

I love that this site has great history. I soared Saturday 11/26 and Monday 11/28 , we flew for hour or more and i got to 6400. This time of year a 30 min flight is rare. I hope to break 10,000 this year. Have great day
Great job man!!!!! I have a Sport 2 175 that I've only moved up to for 2 flights under aerotow. That was 2 years ago. I've had a pinched sciatic nerve and then tennis elbow that have kept me grounded for my 2nd and 3rd season of flying. Guess I'll go back to my Falcon 2 225 to get back into it. I LOVE those wheels!!!!!! Where did you get them? I have the stock tiny wheels. Hate them for the AZ desert landings. Where was this filmed at?

Thank you for the comment, I have been flying my Sport for about 7 months. I have been flying for just about 2 years total. I have had my share of learning experience's and hurt my ACL and my rotator cup. Broke both my leading edges and many down tubes. In my first two years I have many hours and fly 3 or more times a week. I just started FLPHG and got a great deal on a Mosquito. I was flying in CA by Lake Isabella at a ridge in Weldon. The wind can go from 0 to 30 mph in matter of few hours. The Lz is down hill and have to land cross wind most days. I fly Dunlap most days and if you can land there you can land most any were. The wheels I got from a friend in the Bay and work ok. I would love to fly Mingus some day soon. If you're ever in Ca hit me up and ill show you around.

@@rustyhorner3230 I have 59 flights with a total of 12.5 hours. My brother and I got our foot launch training at Andy Jacksons Marshal peak. 2 flights there. The only 2 foot launches I have. The rest were aerotow at Sonora Wings where we got our training. Have to be H3 to launch from Mingus. I'm really close to that, but with 2 years not flying, I've got to get much more practice. Especially focusing on spot landings. I'll move back to my Falcon 2 225 for a bit and then move back into my Sport 2. Never foot launched the Sport 2 yet either. LOL I'll get there. Just not any opportunity to fly in the summer here in AZ.

@@garrykennedy5484 I got my H2 in Santa Barbra with Willie Dydo he is great . Went to Andy Jackson to build air time with Dan. Then got a break and got signed off at Ed Levin and drove 4 hours up and 4 hours back to build air time and did not get to fly some days . Then I meet Bob Soares and his son Ryan and Bob is a Observer and he helped me get my last hour and half to test for H3 and we flew Tollhouse one day and new Dunlap next and i did great at both sites took the test and got my H3 and from then on i flew 3 or more time a week . I am now able to thermal better and very lucky to fly with many pilots with 20 years or more . I owe them so much for all the help and patience with me. Dunlap is a very difficult LZ and I love to fly there. Hope you get your H3 soon . I have a brother in Tulsa and would love to come down and get my aero tow sign off. Ill be testing for my H$ in few months so i can fly Yosemite . Like your channel and hope to fly with you some day soon.

When was this
@rustyhorner32302 жыл бұрын
This was about 6 weeks ago. New it was a day that had no wind and some times tail. I was going to jump on the right wing but decided to just drive it in instead of mushing off and hitting trees below. Learned a good lesson that day.

This was good day , great flight with R. Soraes . My push to talk got tied up with harness leash and I lost cumunication. Then GoPro lost the other 55 min . I did not even have my wheels on so had to nail the landing. Thank you for response.
@danielminer4462 жыл бұрын
I would recommend putting a strap on the bottom of the boot. You hook your hand through it and the boot is completely up and out of your way during the launch. You simply drop it and step into it. There is nothing to get in your way. The way you have it now could lead to some tripping and worse. My 2 cents.
@rustyhorner32302 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your input , I have a factory clasp but it is too high on hip and have trouble releasing it. So I put a leash that works well except when it caught my push to talk . check out my new video from 10/30 and see what you think. Almost spot landing and great launch.

@@Bodoone69 IDK who crashed there the other day , I was at launch and know body knows who it was. The day before it was really good got to 7800 and could of hit 10000 but i did not were gloves. I did hit a tree last Sunday but that's not what your asking about. Can you patch a 5 inch hole in main sail by king post? I have been flying 4 times a week . Ryan Soares is helping me , he is a super good pilot . He flew almost to Bakersfield week ago from Dunlap.
