An interesting point to bring up, wasn't it said that the 2008 production also wasn't great but the casting was on point?

I just wanted to say, I had a really bad day yesterday and I ended up listening to a bunch of your videos. They really helped me keep calm and not spiral. So thank you.

Another great insightful review but the constant references to J.K.R. are becoming a trifle disconcerting. You’ve made your point so many times before M.J. that to keep doing so, at length, is getting rather worrying.

Spoiler Alerts for some of the shows featured in this video... you've been warned! How HILARIOUS is the scene in Eureka Day of the virtual town hall?! I have no idea what words were even said on stage, as I was too focused on reading the group chat, but damn that was some of the funniest writing I've seen in a play in a LONG time. I read an anecdote about an older patron who asked a question at a Q&A who asked the creative team what the translation of the last scene was, the one performed fully in Farsi, and the creatives refused to answer and said something along the lines of "how did it make you feel to not understand?" and it immediately added a whole new level of depth to an already brilliant piece of writing. As always, a great vlog, I love seeing ya'll in my city and I always hope I'll see you around/at shows, so far I think my "randomly seeing ya'll" counter is at 2

Oh my god hey indeed 😃 I heard about the premise of the play and immediately went to read the book. It's dark and funny and frustrating and I know Asa will kill it as also-ran Harry Potter. thanks for reviewing, glad you enjoyed it (despite She Who Must Not Be Named) x

The plays im most excited for this year are Romeo and Juliet at the Belgrade Theatre and 4.48 Psychosis at the RSC. This Romeo and Juliet intergrates R&B music, and takes a heavy political stance on the play, which might not be everyones cup of tea, but im so excited to see how it turns out

I saw this show on Saturday (its final day) and I thought it was excellent. Sigourney Weaver was solid, starry yet unpretentious - I genuinely cannot understand the negative reviews. She was clearly directed to deliver the dialogue in almost a Captain Janeway/Kirk style - and also I remember "Forbidden Planet" the sci fi classic from the 1950s is actually "The Tempest". And Mason Alexander Park was outstanding. I'm with Neil Norman of the Daily Express on this one ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you for this thoughtful review! I had the opportunity to see this production a few days ago and had a fabulous time, in large part because I was ecstatic to finally get to see Audra act on stage. (Had seen her in concert previously!) Although I'm familiar with previous cast recordings, I'd never seen Gypsy performed before and loved it, but I appreciate your perspective regarding some of the elements that didn't totally cohere for me, particularly regarding the pacing of Louise's development in the second act. Mostly I'm commenting just to echo your praise for Jordan Tyson, who I thought was astoundingly good as June. A dynamite comedic and vocal presence who absolutely inhabited her character!

31:43 Oliver does leave the stage to change out of the shhh!!! dress but when the song is over they are in the same position so I think it’s as if the character is listening to what Nancy is singing about. Correct me if I’m wrong of course

With Hadestown, Percy Jackson and soon Hercules appearing in the West End, they need to rotate Hades between productions. Ideally with the same characterisation. Hadestown Hades would probably just straight up fight Hercules 😂

I’ve seen this show twice in the UK, with the first cast and the one that is now performing. The current Orpheus and Persephone are absolute revelations. Not dissing in the previous actors, but there’s something very special about them. Orpheus is more endearing whilst less childish, and Persephone is just a bomb of energy and dynamic emotional range. Incredible. ❤ Would love to see all the casts, including the Original Broadway… sadly I live in Portugal and make Portuguese wages, so…

Before seeing this version of Gypsy I expected Audra’s vocals would be magnificent. But I wasn’t prepared for her acting to be so incredible. She took my breath away. I understand your concerns, but I this is one of the best performances I have seen on Broadway. And I’ve been seeing Broadway shows for over 50 years. The rest of the performers were also excellent, and hearing a full orchestra was a real treat

It truly is a shame. I am confident that this show would have been incredible, it is so sad to imagine all the artists, actors, directors, set designers, tech crew, etc that would have made this show such a masterpiece. Maybe some day this story will be seperated enough from its horrible author that a show could be possible in better faith.
