Did my flight instruction and ratings out of Torrance airport... a few mandatory trips to Catalina were done as my instructor knew every new pilot would be headed there ...perfect Buffalo burgers and scenic break in the day

In the 80's I worked at LAX for Flying Tiger airline and would frequently fly over to Catalina for lunch in my boss's Grumman Tiger. Usually would have some version of Buffalo steak.

back in the 50ties,60ties my aunt and uncle owned a hotel in avalon--we would fly the piper 140 to the airport a few times but it is a pain to take the ride down to avalon so most the time we took the big white steamship--there were also pbys that would land in the harbor of avalon-it was fun times with the cousins and all...
