Very insightful video but I’m a bit confused. In the cutting density where 6 is for > than 3SPC and 7 is for 3-7 SPC, isn’t cutter material that is greater than 3SPC also cutter material that falls between 3 to 7SPC?

Thank you, Mr. Ugo, for your videos. I started watching from your video posted nine months ago, and I must say they've been truly excellent. Your channel has now become my go-to for everything drilling😀. If one is to read all the books mentioned, in what sequence or order would you recommend reading them?
@XteemWellEngineering4 ай бұрын
Thanks a lot for your kind words. Firstly, it depends on your current knowledge. Are you a Petroleum Engineer? or you just became interested with the Drilling Engineering facet of Petroleum Engineering? If this is the case we will need to talk ([email protected]) else If you are a Petroleum Engineer interested in Drilling Engineering, then it depends on your aptitude. I love Engineering and Design so the Petroleum Engineering Handbook (volume 2) was very interesting.

Hi Ugo, thanks for the lecture video. May I know why is the gauge cutters are not considered in Bits Dull Grading? Cheers!
@XteemWellEngineering5 ай бұрын
Gauge cutters are excluded from the wear assessment in the outer rows during the dull grading of drill bits because their primary function is maintaining the hole diameter rather than actively engaging in cutting. Separating the wear grading of gauge cutters from the main cutters simplifies the assessment process. This allows for more straightforward and standardized reporting, essential for making informed decisions on bit usage and replacement. By excluding gauge cutters, the dull grading process remains consistent and focused on the cutters directly responsible for the cutting performance. This ensures a more accurate and meaningful assessment of the bit’s overall condition and performance. Simply put, excluding gauge cutters from the wear grading of the outer rows provides a more accurate and relevant evaluation of the bit’s cutting performance and ensures consistency in the grading process.

Can drifts made of HDPE or polyamide guarantee a more effective drifting operation?
@XteemWellEngineering7 ай бұрын
Hi Mike, my point exactly. The drifts need to be made of a 'softer' material so that it doesn't damage the connections on the way in or out. However, because of the softer nature of the material used, the drift needs to be properly calipered to ensure that the drift has the recommended drift OD before use.

Hi Hussein Rabias books are excellent books! I agree! I read the first two you mentioned starting up in the industry. I acknowledge that the book helped a lot with Drilling Hydraulics hand calculations (Bingham Plastic and Power law). The book also helped me understand Kick Tolerance calculations. Whats your jetting parameters at this phase and whats d size of bit used when you start jetting with the conduct and what are the parameters while jetting with conductors would love to know the difference and why..and kindly confirm the drilling fluid used as this point of jetting without riser just too know what environmental effect we could be dealing with

It was a 26in Bit. Flow rate was a range 100gpm - 1000gpm. You increase flow rate as you proceed, as formation gets competent deeper. Seawater was used, and 50bbls of sweeps to clean the hole every 15m jetted.
