Your poetry is plainly beautiful and so descriptive. I hope that you still write and have been published! It is most definitely fit for publishing. The way you read it is also so lovely and there is a natural rhythm that adds to its overall effect. I would suggest that you read it a little slower to be even more effective. I am obsessed with the Sonnet. I hope you like this one I wrote today about something superfluous. Lines On a Strand of Silk Small strand of silk, the many lives thoust weaved From my pocket to the pillow thoust been Started in a worm, never holding form As I watched you creep, quiet ‘cross the floor Small strand of silk, the many lives thoust lived When I discarded - thy danced in the wind Such a saddened string, picked up from the street By the sparrows beak, for a nest to wreath Small string you found, a home within a tree To watch eggs turn, into a clutch of chicks And when their pinions sprout, sent into the sky You circled back home, to where you first had lied Small strand of silk, I see you ‘pon the floor And think on all the things that you’ve been before

Reflection reminded me of that C. S. Lewis quote, "She wasted all her school time wanting to be the age she is now, and she'll waste all the rest of her life trying to stay that age." I wanted some good poetry to fall asleep too this is great. It does everything poetry should it's melodic, a little melancholy, and so ethereal.

This is the first video of yours I've watched, I searched for 'post uni depression' as I am similarly struggling with the transition from the university lifestyle to post university life. I really do hope you've managed to find comfort, happiness, and a life for yourself which brings you joy - in your own terms. Thank you for sharing your struggles, as you've made me - and many others - know that they aren't alone.

切ない (Setsunai) Photographs last a lifetime - put me in her place. I insert myself like you insert yourself inside me/at least what I had imagined would happen. All that was before, the monochrome photographs - stoic hands rested beneath your chin like an Adonis. Japan became your safe haven - your retreat. We could have gone there together - the maraschino cherries abreast in our hotel room/the jazz piano playing on the record you brought in your case. The black void of sky - echoing icy breaths/the energy of coitus and tangible lust metastasising. I am the feeder of your dreams, rebirthing nostalgia with its vanilla pod perfume. I would dance with you to ラビリンス by Mondo Grosso ft Hikari Mitsushima - my hair pasted with starry glitter, my red nails tracing your back. Our song, electric with the soft baby blue it now exudes - a palette cleanser for being too happy, too content. Before, she reduced you - under the thumb of hinged fragility. Grief is to be sleepwalking - to be a victim to yourself. The scent of you sticks to my nostrils - vetiver and musk merging to form a powerful organism that haunts me. In the shimmered silver shadow of the mirror - my mouth is agape, savouring the remaining maraschino cherries. The glassy syrup travels down my neck like how you peppered your kisses.

Very good! You're right about the publishing process being stressful. I can tell you some horror stories about the fiasco that I went through with self publishing firms, but let me assure you, MARKETING is where the real tribulation awaits. My wife and I are both authors. She writes romance with paranormal elements, and I write sci-fi, though I did write a book of dark poems too.

How do you get the courage to read your poems online?
@lucythemermaidx4 жыл бұрын
I've spoken to a camera for over ten years, so I'm used to that side of things! As for reading my poetry specifically, I think it came down to being open to criticism. My poetry isn't perfect, no one's is, and sharing it comes with vulnerability. But vulnerability is a great thing - putting yourself out there means people may come back and say they relate to what you've written and can identify with your words, which is really rewarding! It's all about taking that chance, being prepared for criticism (some people may not like your work and that's absolutely fine!) and embracing being vulnerable. :) Hope that makes sense, good luck!

As someone who's never really developed the structure required from a student I can honestly say I can't wait to graduate. I hate my degree, Civil Eng, and I honestly can't wait to just scrap a 2:1 and get onto a grad scheme/conversion course. University's a bubble and is in no way a representation of the real world or the job market's. You're protected for three years and have tutors wiping your arse every step of the way before being thrown to the wolves. I'm planning on spending the year I have left withdrawing from any social activity, and re-sitting my A levels so I never have to look at another structural analysis problem again. Fuck engineering, PWC/financial services here I come!
Hey! This might be a weird question but for Shackleton can you say when applying for accommodation how many other flat mates you would prefer to have as I know it can’t range from 3 to 8, so I was just wondering if you get any say? X thanks and great video 👍

Hi! Sorry for the slow reply! From what I remember it’s completely random. I got out with 8 people, but knew people who lived in flats of 3. It depends what flat you get put in as they vary in size and layout :)!

Hi there!! Oh god I related to every word you said it made me cry😭 I graduated 3 months ago majoring in business management and my life has been just me staying at home, netflix, applying to jobs, working part-time at an ice cream parlour. I also suffer from social anxiety and I just feel so low and lonely at the moment. I miss uni so much. I didn't know this whole post-grad depression was an actual thing until I googled being sad after graduation and saw a bunch of articles on it. Like you said I had no idea it was this hard after graduating. Your video made me so much better knowing this is something a lot of people go through. You posted this a year ago though, so I hope you're doing great now. Sending hugs from Malaysia!! I subbed xx

Your video was really amazing to watch. It's so beneficial to see someone talking honestly and openly and this sort of stuff. I think the most important thing to bear in mind is comparison is the thief of joy. As unfortunate as the situation is the harsh reality is that many graduates struggle to find work even after 6 months of university (maybe even a year after graduation). In a strange way, there is something comforting because as difficult as it is to believe we are not alone. Someone is in the same boat. One day these slings, arrows, toils, and snares that surround us will be a distant memory and in turn, replaced by other challenges. But you've already proven yourself to be a success otherwise you wouldn't have graduated in the first place. It's better you arrive later in life at something but know in your heart it's what you truly want rather than find a job a month after university and it bores the arse out of you. HOPE (Hold, On, Pain, Ends) always!
@lucythemermaidx4 жыл бұрын
I've never come across an acronym for hope before! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Comparison is 100% the thief of joy, and it's very easy to compare yourself to those who are supposedly 'ahead' of you, have already got their dream job, have already got a house, married, whatever it is you're seeking! Thank you. <3
