many years ago we sat at the holding point for over 1 hour at DFW because of weather, of course that cost me my connection in LAX back to Australia, but I was happy to wait

Flew through a thunderstorm on a flight Key West to Miami International in a small prop jet plane. Turbulence and lightning all around. I could see up the isle and into the cockpit as the curtain partition was open. There I could see a radar screen with the storm clouds outlined all around us. Kudos to the captain, whoever they were.

Just pausing at 4:57, I can confirm there's a tornado (right next to the lightning) but the distance from the plane is a lot. Despite the turbulence, the storm is nowhere near the aircraft. Usually when there's a storm (in this scenario a tornado) in the vicinity of the plane (<20 nautical miles distance (recommended nau. miles by the FAA)), the ATC postpones the flight. In general, a flight gets postponed due to three things 1) weather conditions; in this video heavy risks like hail stones, heavy rainfall, wind speed/turbulence, and debris [flying], 2) Communication from another aircraft to see if they are affected by the weather [storm], and 3) VERY IMPORTANT is the aircraft's condition, to see if it is SAFE to even fly it in broad daylight. Remember, throughout the years, many aircrafts failed to fly through the storms, however with great technology modern planes today do not even get affected by lightning (it's not impossible but very less likely to get shocked), and with two trained/experienced pilots, with the support of the company's dispatch and ATC, they would know best whether to fly or not. However, in this video, while you can see lightning all over this video, the plane itself is a safe distance from the actual storm cell as demonstrated by the smooth flight.

At least no lightning strikes on the plane. I had that happen somewhere between Albuquerque & Phoenix before we got re-routed down to Tucson & back up to Phoenix. Monsoons. We lost all electrical in the cabin. Pilot was standing with the flight attendants as we left the plane for those with questions. He said we took a hit (but we knew that).

Nice video. If I had been filming this, I would have had to put a parental warning at the beginning. "This video contains a heavy use of profanity, farting noises and the sound of a grown man screaming like a 12 year old little girl." That was intense. That's the kind where you hope they climb above the clouds with the quickness. Nice upload. I watched the entire video.

I once flew through a proper banging storm over the Bay of Biscay in a Boeing 757, it was so bad the pilot was told to climb to 41k the engines were screaming, massive turbulence, loads of lightning, the stewards were running along closing the blinds, it was fantastic 😎

FlightsSim Microsoft Flighsumulator graphics getting better and better. Although they could make the tenor of the engines heard from inside the cabin way more realistic, it’s never so uniform but mixed with other sounds, shaking, voices etc. I would also look at better third party aircraft to take the realism even further, PMDG is pretty good. Your weather though looks quite realistic.

Quite a dramatic lightning show on the runway! Saw little to no wing bounce, which would indicate turbulence. Lots of flashes airborne, but passengers laughing in background. I agree that while directly flying into strong storms, or intense squall lines, there is real danger. With the peaceful vibe in this plane, the pilots seemed to have everything under control. Also, due to windsheer, pilots are forbidden to take off into a thunderstorm. No problem here.
