Honestly wasn’t into it at first, but the ballad made everything come together. Took me a few listens to figure out what song it was but once it hit me?? Incredible. Also I know facial expressions have to be extreme to read from far away but this show is unique in that those extreme features _add_ to the show when viewed closer rather than detracting from it. Incredible work all around.

They seem to be getting record breaking attendance for them at audition camps so I don't think its much of an issue, at least this year that is. Maybe it will dilute more once scv has done a year and shown reliability

I was at the NorCal auditions this past weekend. Huge numbers and very competitive. It’s going to be an amazing season for Mandarins 😊

@michaelvincent7115 Not sure if you are trolling or just giving a backhanded comment to diminish the Mandarins success, but SCV not performing in 2023 had zero impact on the Mandarins success. My son marched Mandarins in 2023. So I have firsthand knowledge that there was only 3-4 kids that came from SCV. In fact, quite a few of the 2023 Mandarins kids came from top Open Class corps from the 2022 season. So this notion or false narrative that SCV packed up their trucks and kids as their buildings were burning down, and headed 90 miles east to Sacramento is straight up lies. If you were paying attention, the Mandarins have been on this trajectory since 2018 regardless of what SCV and their incompetent staff was/wasn't doing. Mandarins just had their brass camp this past weekend. If you are expecting them to fall off, you are going to be disappointed come August. According to my son, so far what they have this year, leaves Sinnerman brass book in the dust. Mandarins are here to stay, whether people like it or not.

No disrespect intended to either corps, but it's competitive so i imagine like sports that more teams in the same pool can affect success. Edit: apologies for the delayed response. @@gunner-qf9eh also just a side note. SCV had won a championship in recent years so quality of musicianship and performer are clearly high there and calling them incompetent seems unnecessary. And no one suggested that Mandarins weren't doing well, i myself have been excited to see them as i was when Crown broke the top barrier. it was simply a question of how adding another corps back into the mix would affect the talent pool. I respect your pride in your kid, and i imagine they are phenomenal as a performer, but there was no slight in my comment.

I loved this show and prefer it over BDs 2023 any day but I think bd still deserved to win. There’s small things in the execution are reasons for this show to not win, late attacks, off pitch high notes that stand out, mainly with the trumpets, such as at 3:54. Still my favorite show of the season though. Just from a technical and judging perspective I don’t think they deserved to win.
