Thanks for the playthrough! I think you misplayed a rule regarding attacking. All units attacking must be activated in order to attack, you don't activate the target space but the attacking units space which would have changed the game quite significantly in terms of operation points economy.

This otter talk from the beginning was slick! Every single turn was guaranteeing itself at least 1 or more buys. Well played!

Dang, I thought Guerric had a T6 win here until I saw he had no moles in the burrow. There's a mole in clearing 7 with a tradepost and 8 moles in the supply, so he could have bought both tunnels. Dig into 9 with the fox bag, build a market with the anvil. That is both daylight actions, then you score 3 points from Baron of Dirt, score 5 points from banker + mayor (4 bunny / 1 mouse), brig battle the tradepost in clearing 7 to score a point, and then the anvil goes back to your hand and you craft it in evening for 2 more points. That is 3 + 5 + 1 + 2 for 11 points, and he was at 19. Unfortunately using 8 to buy means you don't get the birdsong mole in the burrow, and can't rule 9 to build. So close!!! Love your videos as always, since you always seem to play moles it's giving a lot of endgame mole analysis practice :P

At 2:03:00 was hoping you'd daylight move from 5 to 1, daylight battle, then if you roll a 2 or higher you kill the roost and have a warrior left over in 1, banker + mayor for 5 points, marshal move from 1 to 11, brig battle the sympathy in 11 and the sympathy in 12 for 2 points, score the markets for 3 points, giving you 19+1+5+2+3 = 30 for the win. Of course, this is contingent on rolling a 2 or higher in clearing 1 with your daylight battle, and Lily not having the bird ambush (mouse, rabbit and other bird already accounted for). Love watching your content, hearing you talk about the game has taught me so much. I hope to see some more Root content from you with the upcoming expansion!

Whats even more insane about the triple 0-0 was that if he got that after getting the 1-1 he is still fine. It was only because they were the first 3 rolls that it happened.

Okay I know i;m late(3years lol) but just discovered your lets plays and they are amazing. Just wanted to ask: Couldn't the Lizards have won from 25 points on minute 3:10:00 and onwards ? Instead of converting 3 rats to lizards they could just sanctified the fox clearing's stronghold on the river, giving them rule. With rule and 2 fox cards in hands they could have built another garden with the 1st fox card and scored with the second. The revealed mouse ambush could have then be used to score 3 for mouse gardens landing them to 30... It really does not matter in a teaching game, but i wanted to know if i am reading the board state right. Great game to all and greetings from Greece!

When I have played Crows, I have always felt that many things are lacking, but I think that they would benefit from a March action: do two movements. In many instances, they could profit from Nimble and they could do some "move-move-attack-attack" to clean spare cardboard pieces.

Very well-played game by everyone. It's a shame the Badger's mistake of scattering 3 warriors to a clearing that the Eyrie could block with a roost was so costly. Loved the Lizards getting back in it, and Nico dealt with the keepers perfectly after they migrated. I think if he hit Tinker instead of softening the fox clearing it was super likely he wins on his next turn, though he was spread pretty thin so who knows.

also, there’s some sort of irony in the fact the Cat’s player’s table talk went too far and was under Morrow’s skin but without it the Rats wouldn’t have been able to win. 😅

I don't understand why players just go with other players say when it comes to tournament specific rules. Especially if you aren't confident. Just ask Guerric, it's what he's here for!

I know this is old at this point, but I find it interesting that nobody picked up that Cats actually missed adding 2 VP for removing mob tokens (you guys didn't mention it either!) at about 2:58:45 . They still wouldn't have won, but considering the crazy state of this game: they would have been on 25 VP, which is pretty remarkable for how boxed-in they were in a game largely dictated by Rats.

The Thief does need to spend 1 movement when climbing, that's clear from the rules. What is not clear from the rules, but Kyle explained it, is that the Thief can pickpocket a card from the Ghoul which turns into a Treasure. Basically, the Thief can pickpocket if the target has the thing (Secret card for Goblins, Treasure card for Knight, open Greed space for Dragon, Terror card or Treasure token for Ghoul). And whatever gets pickpocketed turns into a Treasure.
@punchb

The Thief doesn't start on the map. The Thief player places him on their first turn. In this game, the Ghoul attacked the Thief before the Thief even had a Stealth stat for defense!

Vagabond didn’t have a guaranteed win right? If they draw a mouse card after leaving the mouse clearing with the raft they lose, so it’s about a 75% chance unless I’m missing something.

The one thing I really didn't like about Oath is there is a LOT of questions one has playing it and there is just so much starting and stopping to figure what interacts with or does what.
@sparkmagea99
@sparkmagea99 Ай бұрын
That's true and its also really odd why that is the case because in reality the rules are not THAT complex and the interactions are actually pretty clear; as the rules clarify, do not infer, do exact what the rules and cards say. But the same thing happened in our play group in the first plays of the game. Maybe its because the cards do such extraordinary things compared to many games that it makes people go "WHAT?!" way more

My games group are going to try our first 18XX game soon. We have 2 games, 18Chesapeake and 1830. Which one is best to start with? (appreciate this is an older vid and you may not see the comment)
@GuerricSamplesGames
@GuerricSamplesGames 4 ай бұрын
@@MentatOfDune hopefully I responded quickly enough to still be helpful! Imo if you have access to both games already, go ahead and learn on 18Chesapeake. I think 1830 is the all around better game for many reasons, but if you already have access to Chesapeake then you may as well take advantage of it since it is pretty good for learning 18xx. Don't be afraid to hop over to 1830 after playing Chessie, though. If you didn't already have Chessie, I'd say 30 is a perfectly fine game to learn on, and the much better bang for your buck. So don't feel the need to build up to it or anything like that

I think this game didn't end up correctly. The Brits suffered 4 losses, but that translates to removing 3 pieces. The Patriots suffered 5 losses, but still translates to removing 3 pieces. Win the Day goes to who lost the fewest pieces, in a tie it goes to the defender.
