This video is a gift. I feel better just watching it. I suddenly want to buy an abandoned house on a small island in the Inland Sea. I hope you keep making videos like this. You capture what travel (and living) in Japan is all about.
@Slowsteading4 сағат бұрын
Ha thanks! The cohesion is so strong amongst the residents here (it has to be, for survival) so you'd really want to integrate with the community. We did in fact run into one old guy who voiced his displeasure at the sight of a bunch of gaijin walking around his town. Fair enough, I mean it makes sense to be wary of outsiders. But I guess grumpy people are going to exist everywhere 😂

That face 😂 That reminds me I have a maple desk to sand and a drawer bottom to replace… My dad started sanding it with the orbital and handed it to me for a while, Imma use the belt sander instead I think 😂 at least for the top surface. It’s about as gnarly as your bench!
@Slowsteading4 сағат бұрын
It's extremely satisfying to bring life into these old wood pieces! I actually got gifted the belt sander years ago but didn't pick up a belt till this week (the $6 spent)-wow was I blown away at how much faster it removed material than the old palm sander 😂 Best of luck with your desk project!

more typical fake sh*t!! Under $100...in what world!!!! There's well over that in material alone, plus the fact rhat he has $1000s of professional tools etc....like the video claiming a poster saying he built a chicken pen for ubder $50...oh...but he happened to have allthe expensive material spare and scrap...yeah...right...everyone has endless sheets of ply, 2x4, 2x2 etc just lying around,,,get real!!! So disingenuous and lying as clickbait. And, btw, can all you US "homesteaders" just STOP puting up clickbait with just endless videos of their little kids....those who want to watch endless videos of other people's small children typically go on the Dark Web...not that this particular video falls so badly into this...but it's still just monotone voiced self-aggrandisment with no instruction..despite the clockbait title. :-(

With over 60% of the Japanese population being over 60, the low birthrates of the Japanese, and all the foreigners moving in, Japan will no longer be Japan in 20 years.
@Slowsteading13 сағат бұрын
I mean yea, Japan is definitely changing. But look at the transformation that's occurred in the last 60 years, such massive and rapid modernization and westernization. And 60 years before that, the country was transitioning out of the very traditional Edo period. Which means to say, change is always happening 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

I love the vids but it’s hilarious how you talk about saving money on materials but then use thousands of dollars worth of equipment I don’t own. 😂😂 I don’t know what I should do for a coop but I need one bad. The one we have is old and falling apart.
@Slowsteading13 сағат бұрын
Thanks, glad you like the vids! I know what you mean, tools can be expensive. I try to buy most of my tools second hand, then keep them in good shape so they last for years. Many of these tools are 5 or 10 years old and have paid themselves off through the countless projects they've helped me out on. 😬

I am really curious about the immigration process it took for you to come and live in Japan. As for the kids, I was pretty sure that school in Japan was mandatory and homeschooling prohibited. How is it really? 😊

@Slowsteading13 сағат бұрын
There are a few options for visas, but the business manager visa is the process we're looking at (which essentially means starting a business in Japan). While we are on temporary visas, schooling isn't mandatory. I don't have total clarity on what happens after than, but we've met with some alternative forest schools that would provide a great socialization and immersion environment for the children without the strictness of the standard public school system.
