So, I see that you are importing into a brand new clean document. What if I already have my style sheet defined and named? And, why does Word not work with any other app? In the category of "Gets along with others?" Word gets a big F for Failure!

Thank you so much! I'm so glad to have found your video. I've been working in InDesign for many years and never knew this. The job I'm working on now has a huge mixture of italics and I really didn't want to to style them individually. It took a while to go through the video and understand it. I just finished and it worked perfectly! It's amazing! Wow! 😊🙏

Great video! Thanks for the clear info. For some reason, even though I have the GREP style applied, it does nothing to the runts.

Excellent, thank you so much. What if the last two words of a paragraph are joined by a hyphen? Will this see them as one word and drag in a third word to make up the "two"? Is there any automated way to deal with that?

Really interesting. Thank you. Can I please ask (even though this vid is now a couple of years old) if the process for removal of widows and orphans impacts the bottom balance of the pages (I.e. the balanced alignment of the bottom line across pages)? Thanks.
@nukefactory8 ай бұрын
It does. This has been raised a few times in the comments since the video was published. In short, the main point of the video was to cover the use of GREP when dealing with runts. The inclusion of the short widows and orphans section was due to the terms all tending to be used interchangeably, to try to provide context. There was originally a longer segment in the video which further discussed methods of fixing the inevitable uneven columns that would result from using the Keep options, but it was removed in editing to get to the point (the GREP stuff) a bit faster.

Hello Hello! Thank you foir this. Does the Runts grep style still work? I've tried it today and still have runts, no change... Please help?
@nukefactory8 ай бұрын
It should still work. I use it pretty much daily and haven't noticed any problems. Almost all of the time, when it seems to not be working, it's because there's a trailing space at the end of the paragraph.

This worked great for my magazine that gets printed on gloss, but I am having saturation issues with another magazine I have printed (a kid's magazine) on a 45# Norbrite paper with (Coldset Web). Just wondering if you have any advice on how to export this or fix within my document. I have created my own color palettes to use only 3 of the CMYK options, but still have issues. I'm assuming it's more with the pictures I use. I have converted the document to CMYK color profile. What else can I do? And thank you for such a helpful video!
@nukefactory8 ай бұрын
Might be a bit too specific to be able to offer any help here. My only suggestion is 'always talk to the printer, whenever possible'. They can hopefully provide help, and any decent printer wants the job to succeed as much (sometimes more) than you do.

Please note - importing text like this does not guarantee that you keep all formatting. If the author of the word document used a paragraph style that for example has already "bold" in the paragraph style, there will be no "bold" override applied and therefore the imported text in InDesign will appear as regular text and not as bold text.

Everything is ok, but... What about numbering pages? This spine page inside is also counted. So... left page is #1, middle (spine) is #2, and right is #3 - and it should be #2... How?

I appreciate the video - but unfortunately this did not work for the runts (I have always known them as "widowed words") Whenever I click the "nobreak" it results in a white screen. I tried your plain text edit but it did not help. I will just have to do it manually which will be a Royal pain in the arse for a 20+ page brochure.

THANK YOU fellow Aussie guy! You're right "who uses ID like that", which is why I could never get my "First Para" style to apply the "Body" style to the subsequent paragraphs. Now I know how! Next trick will be figuring out how to write a script to do this, then reassigning my Style shortcut to the script instead!

How does one add commas between double endnote reference numbers in text? i.e. The sentence is here.(superscript)3,4 I'm hoping there is an easy fix I am overlooking.

You’d add in a superscripted comma between the two endnote references.

So the bleed is how much extra your content extends beyond the cut line, and the slug is the name for what's left over after the cut.
