The makers of Alien nicked their sound effects from any old library tapes and a electronic version of Battleships by the sound of it

A picture truly is worth a thousand words: 1- The presence of mug and ashtray gives the impression of a lived in space; someone sat here for hours doing some obviously boring task. 2- The exposed wire visable in the lower corner and the missing component just beneath the lights under the screen hints that the Nostromo is way past its warranty and is held together by ducktape. Telling a story with no words is an art.

Nah, the ashtray and mug are Ridley Scott's, he just forgot to take them away before cameras rolled.

sadly this kind of wire / tape shennanigans are around in every stupid hollywood and videogame starship, but if we continue the way we do its going to be beliveable that in the future humanity isnt capable of building only one single funtioning spaceship...

Before computer became a normal part of our lives the general public assumed by default that all sounds made by a computer in a movie had a practical origin. It took a whole generation of gamers to get used to the idea that you could customise your user interface to an infinite degree. The takeaway was a computer could look and sound however you wanted. But SciFi TV production had a lot of difficulty dealing with this issue. Remember the DS9 main computer? How federation personnel simply accepted that exotic cardasian interface, despite all the hassles that continually presented. Indeed there were several episodes where hidden features of the main computer were a major plot device. This makes no sense to me. Who would put their lives on the line for exotic tech they did not fully understand? At the very least you would be doing a complete software re-install. Back to the Nostromo. The ships computer sounds the way it does, because that is what the IT personnel or the captain chose. While the ship is clearly a dramatic device and a character in its own right in a horror movie, there are good reasons not to make a ships interior feel like a home away from home. A stark utilitarian environment keeps a crew on their toes. There is no room for unforced error in space. There was a lot of science done surrounding human reaction to various alert sounds for aircraft, trains, and ships etc. While futuristic drama played a lot over the years with sound effects, there was a lot of hangover from the 60s, concerning ‘futuristic’ sound effects for the sake of being futuristic.

I like how someone's coffee is just balanced precariously over a (probably pretty important) computer terminal. I bet it belongs to Dallas. 😅

Godammit Dallas. You’re still blind on B and C decks, and the reserve power system’s still blown, AND you’re gonna douse navigation in Folgers. Why don’t you crunch up your Oreos into the Mother console while you’re at it?

There's eight crew members. Well, an agent of the corporation to be precise. His name is Jones aka Jonesy. The agent made sure that the crew was denied their bonus so that the corporation's payroll could be made within budget.

I won't take this Jonesy slander! That cat is as much of a survivor as Ripley; just imagine all the times the xenomorph probably tried to turn him into an appetizer while it was lurking around. Jokes aside though, he's one of my favorite horror movie animals, along with Jed (the dog that played the infected husky in The Thing).

@@staticsoundarchives Yes I have, but to be honest, nothing beats the original. There is something about it that I really like and it has a personal touch to it that makes me think of things that were and dream of things yet to come. I play it whenever I read or log in my personal daily events. Of all the Ambient music out there, including my own compositions, "The Moon Bar" is on my top list to mellow out, including this one :)

@janetcraft
@janetcraft Жыл бұрын
@@staticsoundarchives I'm sorry to hear that :( I hear this from other Creators who run into problems. I know as a fact that, (from what I learned and chatted with a fellow Creator) that KZbin AI and KZbin staffers are really strict about political views, copyright material and certain programs that are made for children. As a Subscriber to your channel, I just came back to look at it and found nothing wrong. I saw your photo showing the "error" in the Analytics section - but all your videos and "About" looks okay. Do you have the "KZbin Studio" or "YT Studio" App? I do - and it shows me everything that I need to know about my Channel and I have noticed that it is "one step ahead" compared to me using my laptop or my PC. In my recent upload, "Night Watch" (for example) my laptop and PC showed me that I had, so far - 200 Views. I go and check my YT Studio app and it shows me 205 Views. This app gives you all the features - Dashboard, Content, Analytics, Comments and $Earn. Unfortunately there is no tool to upload videos. The App is just to give you your statis. Try it. As a YT Creator, this will help you. Please check back with me if you like. I like to know where you stand. By the way - have you considered that your channel, (and perhaps others) maybe going through a "construction." This happened to me when YT was re-adjusting their format window - just when I was busy surfing around the channels! I thought it was my laptop going through some crazy changes for some reason - but no. It was YT who was busy changing things around. And this happened 3:00am, (my time EST) 12:00am (YT PST) time. I hope things will work out for you. Stay tuned .... :)

Hey from subscriber! I love the idea and overall concept of your chanel, thank you, and I would suggest you to avoid obvious repetitive sounds as you already made in several videos -- they create their own system, and if it is not in harmony with main drone, even a bit -- become like clingy and that simply distracting from the whole ambience. It is a thin but huge measure, need to fit it into space, something make seamless, something blur. Every beep have a pitch and facture, need to play with it :) Cheers
