One of the best films I've seen in the last 20 years-and amongst my favorite films of all time. It is wildly ambitious in scope. It's about an artist searching to find his voice. It's a love story. It's a thriller. It's a historical epic. And it is absolutely beautiful--visually and aurally. Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck is a master of his craft. Thank you for this film.

I’m nervous to pay thousands of dollars for something that may not benifit me in the long run, I love art and would like to persue that as a career but what are the actual chances of getting a job in this industry?
@shanajames75522 жыл бұрын
I did a visual arts undergraduate degree 30 years ago and have never been out of work, sure it's less secure than some other careers like teaching, law or medicine (and less lucrative) but I know people with marine biology degrees who can't get work in the field but no one says don't study biology. I know people with marketing degrees that took 2 years to get a job in the field - no one says don't study marketing. Critical thinking is a really important part of a visual arts degree, it's really good training for management because you are planning your own projects, seeing things through and pivoting when things don't go to plan. I think we would have a better society if more people studied the arts! By the way in my adult education classes, I sometimes teach lawyers who hate their jobs, If you love art - do it!

Just to provide another insight, I studied art for 3 years (Fine Arts) and graduated in 2023. I studied in Singapore and It's so difficult to find work and within a year I basically got nothing. I had to go back to my home country and get back on my feet. Now I'm learning things like UX Design to increase my chances of getting a job. The world and job market is very different now than decades ago, so you've got to consider that. I'm not saying you shouldn't pursue art, but you shouldn't pursue *just* art. Really focus on learning something that could sustain and feed you, and build a good portfolio/resume on that field so it could be a safety net for when you graduate.

I congratulate all the school principals who have put aside the narrow minded approach of, as one principal put it, 'us' and 'them' mentality in such a diverse country like ours. We need to go beyond the blinkered and narrow minded possessive outlook to become more accepting, tolerant and multidimensional. It is this extreme conservative and intolerant perception in many sectors, including the education sector that has limited many Australian youth from becoming bilingual, multilingual, multidimensional and global citizens which ironically is now a part of the curriculum strands....
