Excellent video. Do you have an example how to use a 480c02 to calibrate ICP sensors?
@TheModalShop
@TheModalShop 26 күн бұрын
The 480C02 is an ICP vibration transducer power supply. By itself, the 480C02 is not capable of calibrating vibration transducers. However it can serve as one of the pieces of instrumentation in the calibration process. Piezoelectric vibration sensors are calibrated using the back-to-back method outlined in ISO 16063-21. This method involves a shaker and reference accelerometer. The sensor under test is mounted back-to-back with the reference accelerometer such that both transducers experience the same vibration from the shaker. The 9210D in the video is a portable vibration calibrator with a shaker inside the case and reference accelerometer.

@@TheModalShop I'm sorry, I didn't explain correctly. I have a C9110D, but I have only calibrated the accelerometers models 330400 and 177230 at this moment. @@wansimateos5367 Thanks for the clarification. The Bently Nevada 190501 is the only 2-wire ICP vibration transducer that we know of that requires the 480C02 ICP power supply rather than the ICP power supply inside of our 9110D series of calibrators. For all other ICP sensors, such as the EX607A61 and EX607A01, the ICP power provided by any 9110D series Portable Vibration Calibrator will work just fine.

Hello, thank you for your question! The portable vibration shaker tables are mechanical calibration devices, so the sensor must be removed and mounted to the shaker or, in the case of a proximity probe, mounted over the shaker with the tip directed toward a target of proper materials.

I have a problem with relatively long term exposure to vibration and vibration frequency in my home, it seems it has caused me to be ultra sensitive to any vibrations. Eg standing or sitting near a big engine vehicle and even sitting on the bank of a rapid stream/river, it feels like a skin abrasion that has become so sore that even the slightest touch causes significant pain or discomfort. I am desperate for info on this subject if anyone can help with info or advice pls comment. Thanks

I have a bearing noise test machine that utilizes 2 moving coil style velocity transducers. One of the transducers went bad (coil winding broke apart internally) and the original tester manufacturer is no longer in business. Therefore, we have no idea what specific velocity transducer to order as a replacement. Is there a way to test the good transducer to determine its output (mV/(micron/sec)) and frequency (hZ) so a proper replacement can be obtained?
@TheModalShop
@TheModalShop Жыл бұрын
The nice thing about moving coil vibration sensors is they are self-generating. You do not need a power supply. You can connect them directly to a volt meter to read the sensitivity. To begin, it helps to know the scale of the sensor. But it is not required. If you know the scale is in mV/micron/sec velocity you can use a shaker with a reference accelerometer that is shaking in that scale, like Modal Shop model 9100D. We recommend shaking in the microns/sec RMS scale. This way no conversion is required from peak to RMS or vice versa. We have not seen any shakers that offer microns/sec scale. Although there could be units available. The 9100D offers mm/sec scale. Thus if you wish to know the sensitivity in microns/sec you will need to convert from mm to microns. The most important thing: is the sensor under test supplying a consistent voltage at various frequencies? I.e. if we shake at 10, 50, 100, 300 and 500 Hz - and we hold the amplitude at 10 mm/sec RMS at each of those frequencies - does the mV output read by the volt meter change much? If the voltage read by the volt meter remains the same, within +/- 5%, we can safely state that this is the sensitivity of the sensor under test. If the output is changing a lot, then we might have the wrong scale. I.e. if the sensor is actually scaled in acceleration and not velocity the mV output will change significantly in this test.

At 1 Hz, typical values are 1 m/s2 to 2 m/s2 r.m.s. acceleration or 0,1 m/s to 0,3 m/s r.m.s. velocity as per ISO 16063-21. So, it doesn't meet the requirements!
@TheModalShop
@TheModalShop Жыл бұрын
The statement within ISO 16063-21 that you are referencing is found within the “Uncertainty of measurement section”. Specifically, that statement regarding amplitudes at 1 Hz is found within the section that details the calibration requirements for the reference accelerometer used in a calibration system. It is part of a larger section discussing realistic amplitudes for electrodynamic vibration exciters and says “When measurements are performed at the lowest frequencies, the limiting factor is normally displacement. At 1 Hz, typical values for long-stroke vibrators are 1 m/s2 to 2 m/s2 r.m.s. acceleration or 0,1 m/s to 0,3 m/s r.m.s. velocity.” In short, if one wishes to achieve the “attainable uncertainties” noted in the table that closes the section, the recommended course of action is to use a long-stroke shaker to calibrate the reference accelerometer within the system. Since the 9210D is not a long-stroke shaker, one cannot use this shaker to calibrate the reference accelerometer that is part of a calibration system and expect to achieve the uncertainties stated in the standard. However, we do utilize a transfer standard calibrated on a long-stroke shaker to calibrate the 9210D before shipment. To briefly summarize, the relevant section of the ISO 16063-21 standard is providing guidelines on how to calibrate the reference accelerometer within a calibration system. The standard is not recommending that all low frequency calibrations occur at 1 m/s2 at 1 Hz.

how do you mount vibration switch on this?
@TheModalShop

Can I calibrate triaxial accelerometers with this equipment?
@TheModalShop
@TheModalShop Жыл бұрын
Yes. Triaxial accelerometers are calibrated by testing the X, Y and Z axes individually. It is the same as a single axis accelerometer calibration done three times, rating the axis in between tests. Some triaxial accelerometers have secondary mounting holes to make testing the X and Y axes easier. If the sensor does not have these holes we recommend adhesive mount on a flat plate. We can supply the adhesive and plate as accessories. The 9100D is a shaker meant for testing a measurement channel or doing a “loop check.” Users who wish to create calibration reports will want to review model 9110D which has memory, accelerometer power and sensitivity display.

What is thin weld cap of an accelerometer ?
@TheModalShop
@TheModalShop Жыл бұрын
The weld cap is in reference to triaxial accelerometers in this case. Some axes may have to be adhesively mounted because they do not have a stud mount available. The weld cap is the circular ring that can be seen on the sides of the accelerometer where the circular cap is welded on to the sensor frame after assembly of the inside components are completed. These welded-on sides should not be glued down as they are not as strong as the corners of the sensor. Gluing onto the weld cap can excite the sensor resonances and/or damage the sensor. See the Adhesive Accelerometer Mounting video found at www.modalshop.com/calibration/learn/video-tutorials/accelerometer-calibration-mounting-tutorials for more information.

I have velocity seismoprobe I m getting wrong reading in bently 3500 rack 74712 type I m feeding 2 mm/s rms from shaker table in benlty rack I m getting 0.98 mm/s rms so how to rectify these
@TheModalShop
@TheModalShop 2 жыл бұрын
The first step when troubleshooting a 74712 is to check the mounting angle. The sensor can be ordered for vertical mount, horizontal mount or 45 degree mount. If your sensor is vertical then the shaker can be used normally. If the sensor is horizontal then you will need to turn the shaker on its side. When doing so we recommend opening the lid of the shaker and then gently lying it on its side near the edge of a table or desk so that the lid can fall over the edge of the table. We also recommend mounting the sensor, gently, after the shaker is already it its side. If you apply the correct mounting angle one should obtain good results. But keep in mind that this moving coil technology is more prone to drift than piezoelectric. These sensors will drift out of tolerance over time.

It is recommended to calibrate at smaller amplitudes?
@TheModalShop
@TheModalShop 2 жыл бұрын
The ISO 16063-21 standard for the calibration of piezoelectric accelerometers does not specify that transducers should be calibrated at low amplitudes. As for the analyzer, we are not aware of any standards that provide guidance regarding the amplitudes at which they should be calibrated. Calibrating at low amplitudes would ensure that the analyzer is measuring real vibration input rather than the noise floor of the system. Shaker limitations may force lower amplitudes to be used. For example, portable shakers cannot generate significant velocity at higher frequencies and cannot generate significant acceleration at lower frequencies. Using a shaker with more stroke that is perhaps not “portable” would potentially give the user more amplitude in all vibration scales.

If no stinger (connect test piece with shaker directly), the result would be influenced a lot?
@TheModalShop
@TheModalShop 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. The shaker head should not be directly attached to the structure for modal testing. This would provide very poor frequency response measurements. If the shaker were to be directly attached to the structure, there would be significant dynamic effects of the shaker imposed onto the structure, resulting in a dramatically altered frequency response function. Basically, the stinger decouples the shaker system from the structure and applies force to the structure. The stinger is designed to be rigid in the axial direction and flexible in the lateral direction. Force transducers measure axial force but still transmit forces into the structure through the transducer’s stiff casing. Therefore, any side loads transmitted to the structure by the stinger through the force transducer are unmeasured and contribute noise on the measurement. A stinger that is properly designed, selected and aligned will reduce or eliminate this potential problem. For more information please check our shaker FAQ at: www.modalshop.com/excitation/Modal-Shaker-FAQ?ID=336.
