1st: Put frames in the sun, the wax moth larvae crawl out. 2nd: Frames go in the freezer for 2-4 days to kill all moths, larvae, etc. 3rd: You don’t have to scrape the honeycomb off unless they are really messed up. The bees will clean them up. 4th: Store so wax moths can’t get to the frames.

Thanks for the operational video. I was here to find out how to do some maintenance on this exact machine. If you could do oil change and some other maintenance that would be great. There doesn’t seem to be much on the internet as far as that’s concerned. Guess they don’t want you doing it yourself and saving money. Lol. Tx again for the video

Thank you for viewing the video! I wish I could further help you, however, I rented this machine for only for the weekend. As I didn't see a good instructional video, I thought I'd make a video myself to help others in the future. Just trying to pay it forward!

I feel this is another thing that is not understood by humans. Absconding or colony collapse is a part of the natural cycle. Nature is about balance. If every colony lived and reproduced indefinitely, there's bee too man, not enough suitable hive sites, not enough forage, weak stagnant genetics, too much inbreeding etc, etc. Absconding an colony collapse, hive beetles, was moths... even in a world without pesticides and toxic chemicals or dysbiosis. Eventually pathogenic microorganisms would build up and the hive site would be unsuitable for sustaining life. The comb would be a biohazard to the brood. It's part of general maintenance. The bees move out, hive beetles, ants and moths move in to break everything down. The soil and debri created in the process rots out the cavity more to make a deeper cavity, that can then house a larger colony. Once everything is cleaned out and broken down, ir's now more suitable for the next swarm to move in, clean up and clean out, seal/sanitize the place with Propolis, and make it a home again. There is a time and season for everything. A time of plenty, a time of sorrow, a time for mending and repairing, and a time to prepare for what's to come. Good outlook.

I’m getting Rob wright now from my bees, my supers were 95% full and was gonna do them this wk because been busy working. So instead of my usual 150-200 honey, I’m getting maybe 80 lbs. as for moths, I’ve only had them get me one time and learned from wit.! Thanks for sharing your clip and good luck. 👍🍀

no need to remove the comb, just put it over a big strong colony, they will fix it.

I like this video. Short and to the point. Are you able to salvage any of that wax if you render it down? Or is it so nasty that it won't be worth the work?

Thanks for the kind words. I try to make my videos quick and to the point. I did not attempt to savage the wax. It was so far gone. I do keep a little extra wax, mainly burr comb, just in case I need it to pre-wax any plastic foundation frames that I put in the hives.

@@BackFortyFarm Thanks for the reply. That makes sense, as the wax looked pretty yucky. Keep the vids coming. :)

Had the same thing happen to a hive in June that got robbed out. I salvaged about 10 out of 20 deep frames. It's a mess, great video

Sorry to hear that! I had high hopes of cleaning all the frames an reusing them, but that proved to be a difficult task. Sometimes it’s better to cut your loses and start fresh.
