Paul is a great person to everyone he meets. That how he is in everyday life. He loves playing guitar and wouldn't hesitate to help give you guidelines with your playing. But he's encouraging just as well. He never says this is how you do it. I do it this way and it helped , it may help you I don't know but give it a try. He knows his theory. He played already but went to Musici Institute which was called Guitar. Institute at the time. Since then he's taught many lessons there, written many articles for guitar magazines and still even if doing shows around the world takes time from his schedule to give online lessons or tips to playing. He's lost a great deal of hearing esp on the high end that's is why he where's the headphones while playing so everything can be adjusted to his hearing. Paul is a extremely warm hearted soul who still to this day is learning and practicing new things or going back relearning things he's forgotten over the years. How many people of his stature admit to watching youtube to see how a song is played? I've never heard anyone say it except him. Like he'll tell you were always learning it never stops.

Does anyone have a clip of the Ner Ner version?

What was great about it, was they traded licks and kept it musical and nice licks. Whenever in G3, Petrucci will always play super fast 3 note per string runs that aren't musical for the type of song they are playing, and Steve Vai also, plays a lot of garbage in the tradeoff. This is one of the few times , i can say both players kept it like it should be, but then again, you got my 2 favorites of all time. The way Gilbert has transformed from shredder, to trying to make his guitar sound like lyrics is awesome. It only makes his playing 100x better.

I know it's not a contest and that both are top-tier, but Gilbert has a better sense of time and playing in the pocket that gives him an edge. Fun video for sure--thanks for uploading it!

Guthrie is a gentleman and only shows up proper when invited. Paul is also a very kind and experienced musician and understands how to unleash Guthrie's potential. Shawn Lane's experience is not dissimilar to Guthrie's. You must search for what is being communicated between the two.

These shredder jams sound terrible in general and this one is not much of an exception. Especially those ridiculous call and response segments.
