It is said that the Germans did not set out for Jamaica but the captain of the ship took another route and the ship ran a ground . That is how they found themselves in Jamaica. They settled where they are now . They never integrated with the rest of the population. They inter-marry and maintained the German spelling of their names way into the early 19 hundreds. They are still not integrated into the jamaican society. I think they are the racist not the blacks of Jamaica (though not all of them). There are many white people in Jamaica especially in St. Elizabeth who anyone would think are either Americans, Canadians or Europeans until they speak. My grandmother is also a German descendant, and she didn't talk much about her heritage until as teenagers my sister and I would question her. It skipped generations as none of her children had green/hazel eyes but several of the grandkids did. She said her parents put her sister on a ship to Jamaica and that's all she knows. Then they went to live with a family in St Ann until she married my grandfather in Kingston.
