Oh I remember now! I was the cook and baker aboard the Nantucket WLV612 from 79 to 81. She looks just like the same class of ship with twin masts. Seeing 40' swells in February on Nantucket Shoals is no fuckin' joke! The old man a warrant bosun' named Larry Everman, and the XO Chief Bosun' John T Burlingham for Gloucester, Ma. said I had the steadiest hand on the helm. The 612 was only active lightship ever to sail into Nantucket harbor. The Chief piped me to the bridge to steer her through the shallows of the Shoals! True story!

It was raining, my shoes were wet and so were the floors, plus the texture of most of the floor didn't help. I'm sorry my New balances ruined your experience 🤣

Yea, they tore down most of the building about 5 years ago (minus the observation area) and built a brand new building. To be honest I liked the old place better.

We've never stayed there before (even when it was Shilo). It's well-equipped, has a nice view, and has a big room! Mo's!! Everyone's favorite on the Coast! Great location for everything, Seaside for sure! kinda spendy. Thanks for the tour!

Newport is still my favorite town on the coast, but Seaside is nice. I usually just drive through it and stop for an hour or 2, but it's definitely a place I will probably stay in more often in the future. Way more here than Astoria which is my usual first stop on the coast.

what did the people on a lightship actually do? my image was, a lightship was a much smaller vessel with maybe a few more crew than a standard stationary manned lighthouse, so maybe five or six... this ship clearly has far more spaces and a fairly sizable crew, why? What were their respective roles and jobs?

yes, it's next door, and you get free admission to the lightship when you buy a ticket to the museum. I also just posted a video of a walk through of the museum.

When a sailor gets to thinking he's one of the best, let him out on a lightship and give him the acid test. I can't remember where I read that, but it seemed to say quite a bit. It is fun to walk through the Columbia lightship.

The Columbia lightship was replaced by an unmanned buoy. It is now anchored right next to Columbia, having been replaced by a subsequent unmanned buoy (NDBC 46029).

While I was on CGC Iris we we towed the LNB to the museum and set the the new CR buoy.

It's a lightship actually, it goes out and anchors itself at the opening of the bay and lights up like a lighthouse warning boats.

We stayed at the Palazzo last year (first time in Vegas) and it was the best trip I ever took in my life. I feel like treasure island is super underrated! Its very clean and nice. I like the overall vibe and the location is good. I miss Vegas!! (very expensive though hahahaha)

I go there once a year during a road trip from Oregon to Texas and back, last year I stayed at the Rio, but this year with the heat I didn't feel like walking from the Rio to the strip, so I wanted something on the strip with free parking, which treasure island had. There is a good chance I'll stay there again next year, definitely liked the place, just would be nice if they could fix the AC and the food court.

It was disgusting in there. It was Filthy, stank and animals like baby goats were in a room with a porcupine. The animals are in a big room and can’t escape being touched. Being in there was heartbreaking to our kids

guess you've never been to a fair or a zoo, the guy is working with little resources he has and is saving these animals from being killed. It may not be best circumstances but it's better than killing them.

I remember way back in the 1980's when I went with my aunt to this place. I was very young. Most of this is new. The MASH exhibit was with all the main cast in one place. The guy watching you on tv watching him is still there. I remember D.B. Coopers area with a mirror that showed him not being there once you turned around past him. The Jesus scene, and a few other shots. The pirates are new. The Louis and Clark is still there. The Johnny Depp area is new, so is the Gollum statue. I didn't see the Dragon pit or the Jesus scene. Guess they took those out. Bummer.

This actually just got remodelled a couple months ago. They did keep a lot of the old stuff, but it is a bit different now.
