You don’t have to weld filaments. Just keep an eye on your print and when the last bit of filament is being fed in push the new into the hole on the print head it’s feeding into and keep pushing until the filament is in the drive mechanism. the mechanism will force it through with the old filament and the air gap between the ends will be eliminated when the transition melts in the hot end. You can also do it by pausing the print and just forcing the filament by hand until the new filament is in the drive mechanism

I built a jig to weld filaments and never got a good join. Eventually I gave up and now use ends of rolls in a pen.

You could also just get a filament sensor and switch the filament. Less work, more reliable and failsafe

I have had one of these for over a year and never gotten it to work, when you file it down the joint becomes so weak that it breaks. I see lots of people saying how great it is but no one will show you it printing. Ever wonder why? The answer is because IF it does join the joint is too fat to get past the extruder gears. Maybe one day someone will make one that works.

The biggest issue with the CR-10 V2/V3 is the hotend is a nightmare to service. I guess my question is why go with a new fan shroud if you already have an all metal hot end. The only reason you really have to tear apart your hotend is to replace the bowden or Capricorn tube on the inside. So again I'm trying to figure out why.

I've got one of these filament 'tools' and it's a Chinese as expected. About what I expected for $10. The holes are much bigger than 1.75mm and it does create a sloppy joint as shown.
