Over $2000 in Australia for a bike rack. I could buy a whole new bike with that. Don’t think so. Cycling is becoming a bit elitist.

.... I have a Gen1 ... 2013 Domane 5.2 , Rim Brakes, 3X10 Ultegra ... ungraded alloy rims ( carbon are heavier, too expensive and break on potholes ) and it weighs in at 16 lbs /4 oz's and I just love it ... fast and enjoyable ... but TREK as improved the 5.2 and made it a POS!!!! so I will not be buying a new TREK anytime soon ....

Thanks for the great video, but I have a question. Everyone says the Emonda is the lightweight climbing bike in the lineup, but the Madone Gen 7 SL6 is lighter than the Emonda SL6 according to the Trek website. If that is accurate, why would someone still choose an Emonda if it is heavier and less aero?
@flammerougecc
@flammerougecc 7 ай бұрын
That’s a great question, the Gen 7 Madone has certainly changed things up in the weight stakes. With the similar geometry the key differences are now down to aesthetics and price.

You really need to have a look at the BUZZ RACK range of tow ball mounted racks. Most importantly there are locks to secure the bike to the rack and 2 ratchet straps per wheel. It does everything else the Thule does. I looked at this rack and the Buzz Rack. Sorry but there was no contest and I'm a fan of Thule products.
@janezbester3488
@janezbester3488 7 ай бұрын
Hello! Which Buzz Rack rack do you use? I am very happy with the Buzz Rack E-Scorpion 1, but unfortunately, the E-Scorpio 2 does not seem practical because you have to place one bike behind the vertical support, which could potentially scratch the car. Thule racks are too narrow. In this video, you can see that even an average bike tends to fall off the rack already during the installation process. With my Kenevo XL (133 cm wheelbase), it is impossible to securely transport the bike on this rack. It is already challenging to place the bike on the rack without it falling off on one side or the other, but I would really like to see a moose test with this Thule rack and a long wheelbase bike. Thule racks are simply not suitable for the newer generation of longer-wheelbase bikes. The pricing on the other side is very 'advanced' ;)

Is this way better than the easy fold one? Also it looks like you’re using the spherical mounting system to the car. Is that included with the car or can it be mounted using standard hitch?

Too short for the bike's wheelbase? It rolled backwards because the wheels were NOT properly and evenly supported. NOT even with the top tube clamp and front wheel strap almost in place! NOR would the average e-bike owner be able to lift their 30kg bike bodily onto the ramp. NOT impressed at all! Must try harder. A shame, because I am still looking for an e-bike rack for my long wheelbase, fully suspended '45'. NOR do I need a rack for two bikes. It just makes it very much bulkier and heavier due to duplication.

Finally a gen 4 review. Have a 9.8 XT coming in LBS. Downside to the gen 4 is the downgrade rear shock. I know they spent more on the Bosch gear and upgraded the forks.... Then downgrade the shock vs the gen 3.

@highwayman1218
@highwayman1218 10 ай бұрын
@@Stockfish1511 The Vivid is the correct shock for the Rail and the upgrade I made on mine... Huge upgrade.... The RS Deluxe is just too small of a shock for this bike (rider dependent of course) and I could never get the performance I wanted, it was always sagged low in travel and blowing through no matter the tune. Fortunately RS offers a direct fit Vivid for current Rails. Also went 155 5Dev cranks to keep them out of the rock gardens.

@@highwayman1218 I have super deluxe ultimate on my 2022 trek slash 9.8 xt. I love this shock, but there is alot of maintaining evolved which sucks. Did you get your rail? Would you say its worth it to switch from slash? I love the slash, but i dont like climbing with it, my legs get battered after few hours. Also is there a reason why rail 9.8 xt is more expensive than gx axs variant? I thought gx axs was considered as a higher model idk. Ill probably wait for gen 5 to maybe get vivid and transmission with the package.
@highwayman1218
@highwayman1218 10 ай бұрын
@@Stockfish1511 Yeah, it's weird they downgraded the shock on the gen 4 to a RS deluxe plus (gen 3 had the ultimate), my guess was to offset cost of going to new Bosch switchgear. I think it just multiplies the shock issue being paired up to such a great fork. Even the SRAM guys I talked to, mentioned its not a good combo when I was trying to dial it in. IMHO the Rail needs a bigger shock IE Vivid... The OEM shock always rode low and blew through travel no matter how much I dialed it. Didn't help the cranks either being low in the travel and they were always banging rocks. The Vivid and 155 cranks were the hot setup for my local and riding. I also kept my Remedy 9 w/29, but love my Rail... I usually do eco, but its nice on the long rips to up it to turbo on the way back. You get so much more ride time on an EMTB, its a win win. XT is just Shimano drive train vs the SRAM, I personally prefer XT... 8k was my price for an EMTB and wasn't willing to spend the extra $$ for AXS...

Does this Trek accept 28mm front and rear tires? I'm wanting to build one like it but the Zipp wheels for better performance indicate 28 mm wheels. I saw something on the TREK website that the bike's specifications limit 25 in the front and 28 in the back.
