My 7yr old granddaughter does it and she is awesome at it she is right handed but bats left ❤

My daughter is 11u and 4'7" right handed batter and gets to first in 3.24

No one on my team would start I don't give a shit how good they are defensively, this type of hitter is a waste of a batter and is a easy out, they think they look cool up there but they aren't doing nothing but making me and millions of others sick.

For 14U, 3.0 sec or less from the left side (contact with the ball to contact with 1B) is a good rule-of-thumb starting point for a natural lefty, but be careful trying to turn a righty around. Success here will depend entirely on the athlete's overall abilities and determination, not just speed. Slapping is an awesome tool, but is not the end-all/be-all. There are common game situations where opportunities will be lost if your slapper cannot also swing normally and hit successfully from the left side.

But what is slap hitting? I don’t understand what it is? How is it different than hitting?

My daughter is going into high school next year and her coaches want her to learn to slap. We are a big baseball family and don't have any clue where to start when slapping. What are the very very basic beginning steps to learning. Most things I have seen so far are how to perfect your slapping but not a step by step basic tutorial like this one. Thanks!

My daughter switched at 8. We made the switch in the fall season so a little less pressure. One thing I told her was that she had to stick it out with 2 strikes and stay lefty. As her coach also I approved of this, knowing it's a process and 10U won't make or break a career. She had so many hits with 2 strikes. Really built her confidence!

I understand the purpose of slapping from the left, but I think we should teach right handed girls how to do it to. Hitting/slapping to a hole, you don't need as much speed. Plus it helps teach bat control.

Slapper's footwork is not exclusive to lefty slapping and bunting. If you want to greatly improve your right-handed players' bunting success rate, have them learn and incorporate slapper style footwork in both bunting-for-a-hit (drag bunting) and sacrifice bunting. The old-style lazy footwork used by 99% of today's softball bunters is an inferior way to bunt. When the crossover step is used by right-handed bunters, it naturally induces effective bunting bat angle, automatically moves the bunter into the fair territory portion of the box, and allows contact to be made a bit closer to first base. When we began training our middle and high school players to use this style of footwork, our bunting success greatly improved.

I've never actually thought about bunting towards the right side so first had to charge. I definitely am going to try it out my next game.

My coach had recently recommended that I have one hand choked up and the other at a normal resting place. Does this really help with control more than just choking up with both hands?

I am a self made slapping coach over the years do to the lack of slapping coaches in my area. Your tips are fantastic and simple! I have made some pretty good slappers over the years that are entering their college years and I plan on continuing to use your tips to better my coaching.
