The showcases were $2,000 back then. Today some of the items they bid on to get on stage are $2,000.

Cavett was absolutely correct. "Things That Are Outrageous" is nebulous, in that it is a judgment open to interpretation by the individual. One person's "outrageous" may be another's "normal." Cavett's "Things That Are" was an excellent counterpunch.

Could you show us what she bought? And when else has a contestant been able to buy a car or something else really big from winning a regular round (NOT bonus round!) in the shopping era?

A sonic noise… a bit too descriptive. I’m sure the judges discussed that before hand and decided to let it slide if said.

The first round of WC categories should have been used for a $100,000 round. Wow. They were hard!

And as far as I know, that is a record that still stands to this day (for winnings accumulated in a 'normal' [not speed-up] round).

If I could have, I would have taped the whole series here, including the 1988 return, although short since the whole Dick Clark Pyramid ended permanently on July 1st, 1988.

"Grab Bag" is a bunch of toys in a bag for a kid. They usually give them out at kid's parties, and some stores would sell them, sort of like a bunch of Kinder Toys and some candy. She never said the words, sure, the judge made a ruling and likely seen as the wrong one.

When this was aired on ABC Friday, July 28, 1978, I did not watch this episode because I was at Bella Vista North in the summer version, the end of our fifth complete week of six with Connie Lawford as summer teacher, filling in for Phyllis Herring and Kathy Wong as coteacher.
