You’re inspiring, listening to you describing how you felt living in the US is so relatable. I remembered being in South Korea for months and I felt so free, traveling all over the country without a care in the world, and having a totally different life style aside from my work environment. The US can be really depressing especially for people who are trying to be more social and outgoing. The US is more about social media and what you do as a career and how much money you make, I’m sick and tired of it, yes I want to be able to support myself but that shouldn’t be the first thing to talk about.
@ohdime27 күн бұрын
Thank you so much❤️ omg you so get it! It definitely can be super depressing with no room to give yourself grace because you’re so hard on yourself with the pressure of societies standards. I believe mental health should be the first and foremost priority because that’s what keeps you moving forward, you know? I hope you get to experience the abroad life again soon💌

It’s really disappointing to see "siesta" time (also know as nap in the US) being perpetuated in this video as a modern Spanish custom. In reality, the majority of Spaniards do not take a siesta during the workday. Small, owner-managed shops may close during midday, but this is not for a "siesta"-it’s often to manage their personal lives, as these businesses typically stay open until 10 PM., when all other shops close as well. In terms of full-time jobs, Spaniards tend to work longer weekly hours compared to the European average. In Spain, full-time employees typically work around 39.3 hours per week, which is among the highest in the EU. For comparison, the average for full-time workers across the European Union is approximately 38 hours per week, with countries like France averaging around 35 hours and the Netherlands at 32.2 hours for full-time positions. These figures demonstrate that Spain's work culture often involves longer commitments, particularly in corporate and service sectors, which contrasts with the "siesta stereotype." While many businesses might close briefly during mid-afternoon, the overall weekly workload for Spaniards remains among the most demanding in Europe. If you’re planning to make content about Spain, it’s important to dig beyond stereotypes... Please. By presenting Spain through a well-researched and nuanced lens, you’ll not only connect better with your audience but also show respect for the culture you’re exploring.
@ohdimeАй бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. I appreciate the passion, but I’d like to clarify a few things. The concept of a ‘siesta’ is part of Spanish culture, even if it’s not as common as people sometimes think. In many regions, especially larger cities, the traditional afternoon break has evolved, but it still remains a cultural touchstone, particularly in smaller towns or businesses (like mine), which is why I touched on it in the video. You mentioned small businesses closing to 'manage their personal lives'-that’s certainly part of it, and I actually mentioned that in the video as well. This isn’t meant to be a deep dive into the full history of siesta time, just a general cultural observation, not an exhaustive breakdown of Spain’s work culture.
