I stopped watching after the insulation was installed. This is asking for serious trouble. The main structure of the walls and roof suppose to be open since it is part of the ventilation of the van. Now moisture get trapped in the construction causing rust and mold. Covering the walls with insulation is okay, but leave the structure open
@murfmontane47863 ай бұрын
If you’d continue watching you’d see there is a breathing pocket of about 10/15 cm between the wall and the outside of the van. Same goes for the roof. I do appreciate the calling out of potential flaws. Been living in the van for quite a while now. - no moisture build up - no rust - no mold

A conversion of 10K ? Must be having a laugh ! My conversion in progress will likely not pass 4K and we'll have all the gear we need. Vauxhall Vivaro.
@murfmontane47864 ай бұрын
It says under 10k but you can get away with a lot less that’s true. Guessing since you’re referring to opel as a Vauxhall you’re probably from the UK. Don’t know what the prices are for “gear” but at the time of the build right when the pendemic hit the prices of wood especially sky rocketed. Happy for you though that you’re happy with the 4K build

Mvg, Siebe
@murfmontane47868 ай бұрын

Ben benieuwd!
@murfmontane47866 ай бұрын

@@jw200it’s a great insulation material. From what the package says it has a better insulation value then say arma flex. The only downside is that it’s a pure hassle to get up. So pros: cheap, good insulation value Cons: a lot of work getting it up Don’t get it mistaken though for a heating source in the van. If you don’t have a heater or something in the van then once it’s cold it’s cold

If that doesn't appeal to you that's OK, just find a partner that likes to do the same and continue! Just don't push yourself into doing or being something or someone your not because society says you have to. It's your journey, you should enjoy it, in anyway you need or want to. Safe trails, beautiful scenery and peace be with you! I liked and subscribed, again well done!

the soap ( and otherwise spit ) is a great way to mold the sealing without it sticking to your fingers or tools. both have something in them that basically does that. so for small sealings just spit on your finger and for bigger projects i recommend getting a cheap kids soap

The side panel insulation is a typical choice. The R value of bubble foil is nihil. It's more for reflecting heat from radiator. Looks nice for the finish.
@murfmontane47862 жыл бұрын
this type of insulation had a slightly higher R value then arma flex it was just a pain to work with but it safed my quite alot of money. think i read somewhere that arma flex has 0.7R value and this had 1.2. but that what the package said haha ive done a few trips in november and february in the ardenne forest it is doeble but i am planning on getting a diesel heater
@RedBatteryHead2 жыл бұрын
@@murfmontane4786 are you sure? I've seen Greg Virgoe do a video were it was just good enough as vapour barrier. The R value on the reflecting bubble foam is giving as when both sides have an air gap of minimum 20mm. So the contact to the steel panels is reducing this a lot. Not to bust your idea here. Just trying to figure it out, whether it's a good idea to adapt.
@murfmontane47862 жыл бұрын
I'm definitely not sure haha just a quick Google on what the package said Vs what Google said over arma flex. It does say on the packaging that it often used in caravans
@oliviercoen446 Жыл бұрын
Not all bubble foil is created equal. Few years ago I had to make a prototype ice-cream car/cycle. After a lot of research and expert advice I ended up with a aluminium bubble foil as the best insulator. Better than PIR plates. Expensive for a van though.
