Thanks, sorry about the size. When applying contrast I try to apply continuous brush strokes and keeping it thin and pulling it to the area I want to be darker.

pretty good method, i just can't really see anything because the camera is so far away. i use the same two paints though for this. was curious how the brush strokes / application of the frostheart affects the result

Nice job man looks great. That overbrush after you do the full wash really brings this together. What I do for my deathwing I scratch the wraith bone or ubshafti bone base entirely. Therefore I don’t have to drop an entire coat of something like skeleton board or a sepia wash. I basecoat with morghast bone then I do almost a reverse edge highlight with a fine sepia wash In all the recesses, go over them 2-3 times to darken it down then I go over all the recesses with skeleton hoard but put a little more pressure so it goes outside the lines of sepia, then highlight all the morghast with ubshafti bone and it looks really cool and a nice little twist off the original but still keeping its roots. Keep up the great work man!

What are you using for your drybrush palette?
@HobbyBottMinis6 ай бұрын
The palette is a piece of MDF wood that I spray painted with satin black.
@kkaspars226 ай бұрын
@@HobbyBottMinis Thanks! I use a small sheet of MDF as well, yours looks more textured than what I have though so I was thinking it may be something else. Definitely prefer the dry brushed mini! I use the same method on my SCE

Love seeing Golden getting some love. I'm slowly switching out all of my Primary colors with Golden brand. Golden paints are so much better than any "model" paint on the market and it's nice being able to buy more than 15ml at a time

The Golden paints are great 👍. I’ve noticed through my airbrush the high flow work better over a primer.

what is that handle base you have the miniatures on? looks much more handy than other handles
@HobbyBottMinis6 ай бұрын
The handles are 1 1/8” dowel rod that i picked up at the hardware store. I cut it down to 3” lengths and have blue tack under the models base.

You can dry brush with speed paint. What looks best is not limiting yourself to one technique.

I think they look pretty similar, I think I am going to do certain parts of a mini with speed paint and others with dry brush and speckle shading, thanks for this comparison.

What a great idea to use one of those poppet toys as a pallet. Lord knows there’s like a 100 around my house
@HobbyBottMinis6 ай бұрын
Thanks 👍, I learned the fidget popper pallet from another painter.

I bought a box of mini jam jars from a hobby/craft shop. About 3 inches tall, i think a box of 12 cost me about £4 ($5)
@Boonedale7 ай бұрын
afaik you dont use AP speed paints of a wet palet, it makes the paint to thin.
@HobbyBottMinis7 ай бұрын
Correct 👍, I use one of those fidget poppers for the speed paints and washes.

@HobbyBottMinis What did you use for the metallic at the beginning? Looks like a home made wet pallette.
@HobbyBottMinis5 ай бұрын
@@GeeWhizz34 Yes it’s a homemade wet pallet. Plastic sandwich container, folded paper towel (4 layers thick, dampen the paper towel, then a sheet of parchment paper (kitchen paper-not the wax paper)

Drybrush looks better but speed paint is easier (for me at any rate).

Thanks 👍. I wasn’t crazy about the sheen from the AP Dark Tone and would probably trade out for Nuln Oil.

Dude, this is by far one of the best tutorials for BA. I have wanted to start them but every other paint scheme involves 7 types of contrast and a weird amount of brown that just makes them grimdark. By far the most traditional and easiest painting methods. Please do more! Thank you 👍

Quick and easy, like it says on the tin. Have to say I'd probably have gone a lot lighter on the first drybrush. As it stands, it looks like it just had some brown pinwashing, and the model looks 'washed out' as a result. But you get my sub; I think there's a lot of potential here. A little audio advice as well; you should probably check your recording for those 'wet' sounds like smacking lips and such.
