Hi folks, Take off the #2 Turret, and put in a "Six Shooter" of ICBMs, and update all anti aircraft weapons, the up-dated bulbus bow for a large passive array sonar. Two nuclear reactors. Add more space midships for another new #3 ICBMs Barbetted turret "Six Shooter". And war-game the hell out of the re-invented Battleship. And yeah, the ship gets 4 or F-35s. and two ASW choppers. One can think of it as the USS Montana Class of Battleship re-imagined. V/R , R.

I was a sailor on board _Hornet_ with our go to port Yokosuka, in 1963-1964. The video doesn't show you one sailor on the street, but back then sailors would be seen in droves, the entire scene was narrow cobble stone streets, with open sewers as curbs, all the building made of wood, and in each door way the bar girls beaconed you in. You could order soba which a guy on a bike would bring to you piping hot.
@ExploringAmbience2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your service! Your description of Yokosuka back in the 60's is drastically different from what it is today. Wish I could see a video of how Yokosuka was back then. Thank you for sharing 😌
@joeryanstrialbook20052 ай бұрын
@@ExploringAmbience One must thing to do, was to get a "hotsi bath." There would be a line of sailors trending down a plank floor corridor, peeling off into rooms as wood framed paper doors open and Mama San would point you in; going in, you stepped on a mattress that covered the entire floor and laid down among the girls who give you the massage; then, up and back down the corridor, you are taken to a cabinet: the door is opened you step in and sit down, the door closes and you are shut in up to your neck in a dry hot bath which sweats you; then out, and into the hot water pool with your ship mates, until the girls, giggling, towel you dry and send you out the door. About an hour's experience, at 80 yen.

It's been 60 years but it seemed like it was dirt street then. The first place I went to, I think, was called the Bar Cherry, behind the liquor store. We'd get a liquor card that allowed you to get 5 fifths a month. Then I found a place, I think it was called the Bar Teddy way off the beaten trail. I used to take my Johnny walker there and they'd keep it behind the bar for me. I got to know the owner, and I'd exchange his MPC for him. Unfortunately we spent most of our time in Vietnam, but I miss Yokosuka and my girl.

I used to do my naval reserve annual training in Yokosuka from 1988 until 2011 (I was actually supposed to fly home on September 11 but history got in the way). So much of these videos look absolutely unchanged and others are mind boggling. For instance, I saw a COFFEE SHOP. I can remember not being able to get a cup of coffee outside the main gate until I found Mr. Donut. Now I gotta ask, is that back alley yakitori stand with the mechanical cooker still there?
@ExploringAmbience2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your service! My apologies for the late reply. Coffee shops can be found everywhere now. Yes the back alley yakitori stand with the mechanical cooker is still there when I last visited in 2022 😀

On TV this stadium looks dull and depressing. It looks to have all the ambiance of a stadium built inside a giant warehouse where they didn’t have enough room so they put in that hideous left field whatchyamacallit. I attended the first game at Orioles Park at Camden Yards. Even at 32-years old, it’s a far more attractive stadium than this ugly thing in Houston.

That building, the Prime, has closed down earlier this year. Theyre demolishing it right now to make way for a new 35 floor apartment complex. In the not too distant future, they’re also going to demolish that pedestrian bridge at the beginning to turn the entire Yokosuka Chuo area into a promenade. Yokosuka in the 2030/2040’s is going to be radically different.
@ExploringAmbience2 ай бұрын
I had no idea they plan on demolishing the Prime. I can only imagine how different Yokosuka is going to look a decade from now.

@ExploringAmbience the progress on the demolition is already gone significantly underway. A good chunk of the building and its surrounding block has been demolished.

@marcelluscunningham82724 ай бұрын
If that's a Saturday then yeah it's really dead. But my friend said a lot of the places that were there in 2016 when we served aren't there anymore. So the place did kind of die down. Tokyo or Yokohama or Shibuya is usually the move anyway
@ExploringAmbience4 ай бұрын
Yea it was really quiet for a Saturday night. A lot of sailors do end up going to either Tokyo or Yokohama on the weekends instead since there's so much more to do in those cities.

Thanks for the video! Shenmue is one of my all-time favorite games and I still play through it from time to time. I love going on Google Earth street view and exploring around Dobuita Street and Yokosuka. I almost expect to find the Hazuki dojo at the end of the one street. It's easy to see which places were put in the game and the parking lots that I've spent hours and hours practicing in. I hope I get to see it in person some day.
