@tafonyreynolds I'll look into it. Crust would be another option... I share your disaffection for button combos (sold my morphagene partly for this reason), and, for me, that extends to stuff like the clouds interface where the Blend knob means different things depending on which LED is lit. Point is, using Crust in VCV (which i love), i found the Timbre and Ctrl slider/knobs had that problem. In VCV, where economizing on hp makes no sense, Crust is really annoying. I like my (IRL) Beehive but never use vanilla Plaits in VCV because Palette exists in software. However, thinking about this issue for me thinking I might like to try and code up an alternate firmware for Plaits with percussion modes...
@tafonyreynoldsКүн бұрын
@@GeorgeLocke ohhh yea, always wanted to try crust I mean plaits is full of percussion models no? or want to design your own? I've never tried vcv, how do the button combos translate there? hold alt or something?
@GeorgeLockeКүн бұрын
@@tafonyreynolds right click menu, generally ETA: which is basically not a problem. It is, the example, one reason why vanilla Plaits is annoying in VCV: you set a check box in the right click menu to "edit LPG", which changes the color of the Timbre and Morph knobs -- and their positions. Palette, for reference, is basically a "digital native expanded panel" for Plaits made by the same guy who made the PaulXStretch VST. It's like 18 hp, has attenuverters on all inputs; it has dedicated knobs for LPG color and decay; pitch is controlled by an octave rotary switch and a fine tune knob; there's a "combined" output with a crossfade knob (and CV control). What's way cooler is that the labels on the panel all change to suit the current mode: the name of the mode is written and there's a large icon for each one, and the three synth parameter knobs all get new labels, and they get various visual indications that illustrate their function. For example on the granular cloud mode, the extremes of pitch spread are labeled "unison" and "cloud" or something like that, and there's often like a hashing pattern that goes from clear to light to sense to black. There's more, but you get the picture: there are lots of constraints on a physical panel that don't apply to a computer screen, and this is one of those cases where rigid skeuomorphism doesn't make a lot of sense.

Its a great box to just have fun and learn how Elektron gear works without shelling much cash out. I ended up getting a digitakt later on and was able to jump right in as a lot of the workflow was familiar already. Since the power is 5V you can get a cheap USB power cable for it. I found one that even matches the grey color scheme and lets me power it off a USB battery.

One of my few real complaints about the M:C is that you can't turn the LFO reset on and off using parameter locks. (It's technically possible if you hijack the velocity using a rather obscure setting, but that's a huge pain and it means you can't use velocity as velocity. Complaint stands.)
@GeorgeLocke14 күн бұрын
This is an actual issue because without LFO reset, your options for controlling how the modulation lines up with the bar are very limited.
@Jo_3014 күн бұрын
Thank you for this video 👍 I was looking forward to it There's so much to say about this module, all the modulation, LFO and polyphonic voice parts, you've only just scratched the surface of the Hermod + but I have to tell you that I've had the generated melody in my head since earlier :) Which filter do you use at 36:38 Can't wait for Part 2 Squarp really is an incredible company.
