I still have a couple a hundred (give or take) rounds of that CCI CB 22 Long. It's obviously pretty effective, and pretty quiet because it's a 29gr projectile moving at 710 fps. But it's a little harder to find, and a bit more expensive when you do (16¢ per round/$16 for a "stick of butter" a.k.a., 100 pack). What I mostly use these days is CCI's Quiet-22s. It packs a bit more punch. Stated muzzle velocity is also 710 fps out of a rifle (like my Henry lever action H001, or a Ruger 10/22), but it's a 40gr projectile, so more fpe. The Quiet-22 rounds are much more readily available, and for less money (12¢ per round/$12 per 100). I keep chickens and raise rabbits, so I at times need to dispatch a rabbit for butchering or shoot some varmints (rats, possums & coons). Since I live within city limits, the quieter the report, the better. Either one of those CCI rounds, CB 22 Long or Quiet-22, meet my needs.

This is same rifle/ammo combo I have been taking deer with for a number of years now. I use an old weaver K4 scope on mine. Never needed more than one shot. I limit my range to 200yds or less. If the animal is farther out, I get closer.

@ it’s my opinion that with all the different rifles and caliber and scope combos, and all the other gear that is constantly being pushed on us by marketing departments, that we spend so much time managing everything that we often forget the joy of just taking a rifle and going hunting. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the amount of gear available to us now, and we are always being told we need this or that gizmo to be successful. Getting back to basics has brought the joy of the hunt back to my life. I try to keep things as simple as possible anymore when hunting. My turkey gun is a Henry single shot 20ga and it works well. The guns are simple and reliable. I wear an old foresters vest that has a bunch of pockets for the few things I need hunting plus some basic first aid and survival supplies.

You forget about us old geezer hunters. Our bodies are too broken down to be packing around and shopting those magnums of our youth. The 243 is good to 400 yards, and it doesn't beat the snott out of us in the process. And by now, one shot is good enough. Thanks for the vid.

45 long colt ballistic ally is identical to .45acp but at twice the cost and 3 times as rare. same recoil as 44 magnum with half the power. Truly an obsolete cartridge.
@huntershavenАй бұрын
@undercoverhustler37 depends on the use and purpose, I agree if you are competitive shooting or recreational shooting it's really expensive! But for hunting it's actually not bad. I got some lever revolution ammo for 24 bucks for 20 rounds!
