I used to think movies like this were so original and the characters so unique and cool. Then I actually met people like this and learned better. Interestingly enough, most who were like this as 1990s teenagers are still like this.

Didn’t watch Seinfeld early on but remember flipping channels and landing on this joke. So petty, but so real! Was a Seinfeld devotee thereafter. And the first of many Sein-language terms (for me at least): the “thank you wave”... (think of this whenever I let someone cut in, and “shrinkage” whenever I shower after swimming)...

@Mendabur31
@Mendabur31 8 жыл бұрын
I really think otherwise. I know it's a taste thing but clerks is shallow(i know this will trigger you. Pls dont mind) if you compare it to suburbia. Suburbia is way more subtle and has more depth in terms of human condition. But it doesnt mean clerks is worst. They are two different things and aim different things. I know people compare Kevin Smith to Richard Linklater but they shouldn't do that.
@Profound79
@Profound79 7 жыл бұрын
Clerks sucked. I don't know why anyone would prefer it over this. Clerks was one of the first films I ever owned on VHS but it was dull, pretentious, nerdy and mostly hype. This felt real to me. It felt like I stepped back in time. Conversations and situations that I experienced first hand and old friends that I miss just hanging out with. It wasn't perfect by any means but i've not seen many films that capture that time period so well.

I think before the 1950s young people weren’t really cognizant of their situation. They just went along for the most part. Of course there were some outliers. But they couldn’t make films. Just write books and poems.

@@smartbunnyBefore the 1950s young people didn't have a situation. They were expected to get educations, work, start families, and contribute to society as soon as they could. Then the US became the global capitalist superpower and could afford to let young people have a situation. And now it's the 2020s and it looks like the situation is solving itself.
