I was once a Pentecostal believer when I was first saved, so I do know where you’re coming from. I do not deny that there were certain gifts of the Spirit in operation in the New Testament Church, nor do I diminish their importance. They were ever as much if not more important than the revelation given to the prophets of the Old Testament. I cited Scripture, and perhaps it requires more attention. Hebrews 1:1-2 says, "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds" Another Scripture to consider is Ephesians 2:18-20: " For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone" It has been understood since the early church days that the apostolic sign gifts of tongues, interpretation, Apostolic healings and miracles--these all stood as evidence of the message of the Gospel. They testified of the Gospel’s validity while the Apostles journeyed with the Gospel and were writing Scripture. They also provided the Church with special revelation from God Himself because the Holy Scriptures had not yet been fully written. Once the last “Amen” in Revelation was penned, these gifts did cease because the whole counsel of God had been completed in the Holy Bible. If these gifts continue today, it then stands to reason that any new special revelation would add to the Scriptures, and any "special" revelation that proclaims the old written truths is unnecessary, “for it is written.” Plus, the foundation of the prophets and the Apostles was laid and Christ the chief corner stone. Foundations are not placed down more than once. The qualifications for Apostle were that they were directly chosen by the bodily Jesus, having been in His presence for 3 years, even Paul meeting these qualifications as he was with Christ in the wilderness. There are now no more Apostles nor any need for the Apostolic ministerial gifts. They have ceased, for we have the entire Word of God. The early church throughout most of church history has believed these things to be the rightly divided truth of Scripture. Don’t take my word for it. I commend you to be a Berean and seek out the matter. The Lord bless you dearly!

You're boldly questioning the faith of a fellow brother, based on a secondary issue of disagreement? You have cause to humble yourself a bit and not answer a matter before you hear it. So, please explain to me, exegete, the passage you just quoted for me. I don't believe that you understand it as it is in the whole counsel of God. Scripture interprets Scripture, so what are the "signs" that follow them who believe...what's the context, timeframe, and audience? These are important questions to ask when studying the Bible, but you're positing a new doctrine--the early church agreed that certain gifts did cease. The very Scripture you're quoting indeed strengthens the case for cessationism. Mark 16:20: "And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen." The "they" and "them" are the Apostles, and the Scripture says what I've been saying, the signs followed as a testimony confirming the Word of Christ. The Word of Christ, and His revelation to us have come to completion, until the return of our Savior, the Bible being fully written and sovereignly preserved and faithfully translated. Praise be to God most high! These certain gifts held a mighty purpose. But they are no longer in genuine operation today. The Lord bless you in these things. Please consider.

I do not want you to feel that I'm attacking you much rather to help you to think and to ponder on the things that you are saying boldly making such claims without a clear understanding on scriptures. I trust that you would look at the truth of God message preached by one preacher and many other faithful Brothers in Christ

I would hope the same for you, for I have already considered continuationism for over a decade, and it was the Holy Spirit that lead me to a better understanding of the Apostolic gifts. The Lord bless you. This is a secondary issue, but I find it nonetheless important to talk about because people are taking the Lord's Day Christian Sabbath and profaning it with babble and nonsense that is NOT of the Holy Spirit but according to the newfangled traditions of men and the covetousness of the flesh. Like I said, the notion that these certain gifts did not cease is a relatively new doctrine which the early church and the church reformers during the Protestant Reformation did not hold unto. If my understanding of the Scriptures lacks clarity, and your comprehension in these matters exceeds mine, then please, in humility, expound on the Scriptures and show me my error.

Dear one, please listen and consider. There was an antichrist promised to the early Christians and that he was to come soon. That antichrist was the Roman Catholic church: satan infiltrated into the True Church as an angel of light--satan deceiving with truth intermingled, but then, he seeks to cause sin, even as he did with Christ during His temptation in the wilderness--Rome is guilty of all the commandments. It is a church full of idolatry and wickness. The mass is an abomination. There has and always will be till the return of Jesus a Remnant of true believers, Saints, and these saints are the elect of God, and they reject the church of the antichrist. Please leave Rome, they worship the created thing, they teach foul error like transubstantiation when Christ is risen with a glorified body at the right hand of the Father as the final Priest--there is no longer any priesthood, and Jesus Himself will cast down the putrid pillars and high places of Roman Catholicism. Please, dear one, consider and read the Holy Scriptures and leave this wicked and abominable church of satan.

The Roman Catholic church is the church of Satan because they have an appearance of Godliness but denying the power thereof. Rome denies the true and living God, for Rome has quite literally thrown out the Bible, Satan twisting much doctrine. You seem kind and nice. I appreciate that. It's a true and Biblical doctrine that I would hope you'd wrestle with. God IS sovereign. His decrees are His eternal Purpose according to the counsel of His will whereby, for His own glory, He has foreordained whatsoever comes to pass. And if a man is made a vessel unto wrath, who is he but a humble man of dust to cry out and judge the Almighty? How foolish. Also, the early Christian church certainly believed in the reformed and Biblical doctrine of Predestination. The wicked Roman Catholic church marred much doctrine during those dark years; praise the Lord above for having predestined the Protestant reformation which was a return to those initial Biblical truths that Satan and his church in Rome sought to distort.

@tribesbeats1222 Absolutely. And God doesn't just foreknow all things, but even as He knit you and I in our mother's wombs and spoke the sun into being, He has fore-orchestrated all things unto His glory in righteousness, for He is God, and He is Holy in Justice as well as in mercy. God does all things for the saint’s good and for God’s glory. Glory be unto the Son, Jesus Christ who bore our many many sins and sorrows, debts and death O for those who trust in Him alone for rectification. Where sin once much abounded, now grace so much more abounds, but ought we sin that grace abound? God forbid. There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. God bless you, brother!

What Bible verse says that the Son of God was “eternally begotten”?
@philipsudbury1647
@philipsudbury1647 8 күн бұрын
There isn't one; just as there is no word directly translated "Trinity" in the Bible, but it is a doctrine that holds true from the Scriptures. Proverbs 8:23-24 takes into consideration the eternality and deity of Jesus the Son, as well as Psalm 2. But the meat is in John 1, where we read of Christ being with God and also being God and that all that was made proceeded through the Son. So saying Christ was begotten in no way indicates that He was created, for He wasn't. But seeing as Christ is the eternally existing Son of the Father, we see that Christ is forever Creator with the Father, equal in Power and Glory, the Holy Spirit proceeding from the Father and the Son. The Nicene Creed used the language of "begotten" to convey these things. I hope that's helpful.

@@philipsudbury1647 it is difficult to understand, but thank you for your response. I appreciate your sound and fair concern. I kindly disagree. There are concepts systematically throughout scripture which these phrases attempt to simplify and explain. It's called catechesis. Just as preaching is never Scripture verbatim, there are doctrines and concepts in Scripture that require further explanation. This makes commentaries, confessions, and creeds our friends and indeed gifts from God, though not directly inspired by the Holy Spirit. However, if you ultimately decide for yourself not to use such man-made phrases, that's fine too. What matters most is what we believe to be true in our depths. God bless you, brother.
