Paul Reiser was very under-rated in this movie. "She'll be 12." I have watched this scene dozens of times and never picked up on that. lol

This movie is a blistering send-up of how allegedly intelligent people can come to believe what an idiot is saying. They think his dullard ways hide some kernels of vast wisdom because they themselves lack the brains to see what's before their eyes. Only the poor blacks know what's going on. A perfect description of how the elite and the top hats can now believe the sheer lunacy of crackpot ideas.

There's a sense of Keaton knowing that this is going to be his first big role and he just went all in on this scene to make a stellar first impression. He just steals the movie here.

I grew up on Long Island where late night diner culture is rampant. The diner depicted in this scene was spot on. You hear the clicking sound of dishes in the background. The entrance to the kitchen with customers sitting on the long table was so realistic.

He offers vague generalities, maxims, pearls of gardening wisdom, misinterpreted by fools as brilliance, who hear and see what they want to see, feeding their own shallow egos.

I've always wanted to know if Michael Keaton thought his performance in this film was the inspiration for Bruce Willis' character David Addison in 1985's "Moonlighting."

I still see things I didn’t before which is what I love about this film - just now, I caught Kevin Bacon saying ‘I do’ off-camera and Stern gives him a look. Always missed that because of Guttenberg’s great rant.
