Dang never really thought about that. Producers would have to stay in the lab while their MC counterpart kept touring. The logistics of that would def be difficult for duos.

So Pete got to dumb down his business opps and limit himself because homie got no skills outside of rappin? Rap affirmative action. Lol. Really.

I get what he saying but i also understand why Pete's not with it anymore. They where good friends when they made those timeless, good vibes, high vibration classics! Now if there is no more friendship, good vibes and kinda low vibrations between them, their new music will never be that soulfull and great! It will just tarnish their legacy and good memories we as fans have of them. So we as fans must respectfully accept this, let it rest and charish the classics they made💯👑

CL has a point. But I can see the other side also. Maybe it can't work. The producer rapper duo is difficult to keep together. Gangstarr went through the same thing. Producers have numerous ways to get paid. The rapper in the duo can only get paid one way. The rapper can't do as many features as a hot producer can produce music.

As dope as CL was, he could've worked with any dope producer at that time. He almost sounds as if he was relying on PR to "get his payday".

As a producer that samples I understand where CL is coming from. Without them touring the material he can’t fully eat off the records that had samples that had to be cleared that ultimately affects CL’s bottom line. Pete Rock can eat off of producing for others but they’d REALLY get paid if they toured that original material

CL should've went to Primo. He seemed like he was too exclusive to Pete Rock which wasn't reciprocal. When he heard who's works is this, he must've been like, where's my 16?

I don't know if CL remembers this but back in the mid 90's when their first hit came out i was working as a stage hand in Greensboro, NC. We set up an outdoor concert. Chris Tucker opened the show. It was my first time meeting both guys. CL was up next and I went out to his van to get him. He was sitting in the 2nd row. Steaming about something. Really mad. Breathing hard into his fists. Trying to calm himself down. I opened the door and told him it was time. He ignored me out of anger. I knew something was upsetting him. I didn't push hard but I told him. A lot of people have come to see you. Just you. I'm not sure what's going on but you have fans who want to see you and you've got to calm yourself down and put the music first. And I just sat there in the drivers seat with my feet out the open door. It took a minute or two but he came down off that mountain and gave me the sweetest smile and said okay. He got on stage and did his thing.

This why you respect the producer when u got the chance. As a rapper/ Producer I paid for other ppls beats and verses Knowin I could write and produce my own. "It's a business" work both ways...

So Pete R. was the talent when it came to producing so he was able to get money without performing. Whereas CL was only able to eat from rapping and performing? IMO CL was the better rapper and probably should’ve went solo sooner.
