This course will always be hold a special place in my heart. I shot a 75 around here 14 years ago. I started with three birdies. Spectacular views and truly some magnificent holes. It should be on every golfers bucket list. ❤

I love this video of Prestwick Golf Club. It is a great auld course. I grew up in Prestwick and my dad was a member of the club many years ago, and loved playing there. I have a nephew who caddies there. Great memories. Thanks for the share. 💙

Notice the price wasn't mentioned. Unless you are loaded, playing golf here is ridiculously expensive. Oh and neither was the shitty weather.

Liam McDevitt has betrayed his Irish upbringing to exclude locals right of way through and around this course. Membership fees are extortionate and green fees are essentially a deterrent to anyone who isn't a member already. Catering to helicopter Americans with more money than sense, an absolute travesty and utter shame regarding what he's done to this course and the local walkers. He operates methods of intimidation and obstruction without even asking for forgiveness after the fact. His brown envelope offers will be rejected every time he tries.

Lancanshire? Even if you wanted to go by the really old delineation, the Wirral Peninsula was regarded as "Cheshire" seeing as the Mersey River acted as the natural boundary between the two counties.

I am a South African. I have just had a three and a half week holiday in Scotland. My son is a green keeper on the Old Course at St Andrews. Not a drop of rain during this time was a proper bonus. I loved St Andrews. I spent a lot of time exploring and noticing all the flowers about. Magnificent architecture and of course seeing Tom Morris’homes and grave. I enjoyed visiting most of the golf courses for a look around. Beautiful place

I PLAYED IT 4 TIMES OVER 30 YEARS AND EACH ONE WAS A TREAT. TO WALK THOSE HOLY STEPS. I SCORED IN THE 70'S THE FIRST TIME AND THE MID 80S THE LAST. I AM NOW TOO BLOODY OLD TO WALK THOSE HALLOWED LINKS, BUT ENCOURAGE ANYONE WITH THE PHYSICAL AND FINANCIAL ABILITY TO GO DO IT./ IT'S A FABULOUS EXPERIENCE..( I am 86)

Enjoyed the Greenside Chat about Nairn Golf Club. I must share a long and telling story of my experience there in 1995 while touring Scotland with Colin Dalgleish. We arrived late morning as a 3 ball group and were told there were no caddies available. After twenty minutes or so a gentleman approached us and asked if we would use his son and he as our caddies. He admitted he "was familiar with the course" but his son had never caddied. We said "fine, lets give it a try" and off we marched. Nairn is beautiful and a wonderfully challenging track. Having caddied as a young man I wanted to help instruct the boy on what to do and where to stand. My 75 year old step-father enjoyed the help of the senior man who carried "doubles" for about half the holes. As we headed up the last hole I told the man how much we enjoyed the course and thank you for saving the day for my aging step-father and uncle. He then dropped a surprise on us that we will never forget. He said if you are interested would you be my guest for a sandwich and a pint in the clubhouse? He said he was the Club Secretary of Nairn and would enjoy showing us his pride and joy. Needless to say, I will never forget such hospitality and humility. Nairn is a must play course and the "Highland Hospitality" is genuine!

Lovely Course. I played it in 1988, together with 15 teaching professionals, and five tour players from Sweden. It was my lucky day. 69 shots, including a penalty shot for lifting the ball off/outside the green on the 14th. They had aerated the green AND part of the foregreen, so I marked and lifted my ball believing I was ON the green. Realizing my mistake I gave my self a penalty shot, and proceeded. Had to birdie the last for a 69. I hit the green in one shot (Par 4) and made two putts for a birdie, to achieve my first 69 ever.

In 2018, I played the Old Course and the Castle Course as part of a solo tour arranged by Perry Golf. It was a remarkable experience especially since I didn't bring my ""A Game." Everyone I encountered was first rate . . . professional, friendly and, as Mr. Loudon was explaining, confident without being arrogant. (Townspeople and other golf tourists like me were similarly delightful.) One of my best memories was from afternoon I drove over from Troon. After getting settled in at my hotel, I decided to take a walk around town that ended up on The Links right across the street from the St. Andrews Golf Club. I stood there just taking it all in as a foursome worked it's way up the 18th. One fellow, who appeared to have been around my age, had come up considerably short on his approach. He then made what looked like about a hundred yard shot that landed a foot or two from the cup and then trickled to within an inch or two. All of a sudden, I heard roar in back of me and turned around to see several dozen people on balconies, most with what looked like glasses half filled with single malt, who were cheering their appreciation for the shot they had just witnessed. My man turned his head, just stared for a few seconds (probably not knowing right away what to do), and then doffed his hat to the crowd, which then produced another round of cheers. It was an Arnold Palmer moment that took me back to the early 1960s when I was learning golf. And, it was precisely at that point that I knew I had arrived at the Home of the game I have played and loved for the last 60 years. It put a smile on my face that didn't go away until after I played the Old Course the following day. There are destination courses, and then there are Destination Courses, but there is only one in my book . . . St. Andrews. I credit my experience, not only to the Perry Golf Staff, but, perhaps more importantly, to Mr. Loudon's leadership. Well done sir.

Great video and discussion about St Andrews and the Links Trust. Was fortunate enough through a connection here in the US to be connected with Euan on our visit to St Andrews in 2016. One of the highlights of the trip was spending breakfast with Euan learning about the history of the Old Course, the Links Trust and the St Andrews community. A great person and representative for the Home of Golf.

@@perrygolftravel To tell you the kind of person Euan is, a couple of days after he met us for breakfast we were preparing to tee off at the Castle course telling jokes and laughing with our caddies and up walks Euan to say hi and see how our trip was going. Truly took the initiative to make us feel special and the caddies probably wondered who we were and how we knew the leader of the Links Trust. Absolutely taking hospitality to the next level. Hope to be able to come back again sometime soon but if not Euan made a our trip of a lifetime even more memorable!!

An absolutely interesting discussion on the significance of St Andrews, as if if needs it, and how it continues to evolve and prosper. If I ever get there, I'd love to share a pint with Euan. My real question is why has Perry golf stopped scheduling the Old Course on its cruise itinerary? Certainly the courses chosen are pretty terrific. It would truly be the capstone of the cruise -- at least for me.
@GordonDalgleishPG4 жыл бұрын
I am delighted that you enjoyed the Greenside Chat. PerryGolf has never included the Old Course at St. Andrews as part of the golf cruise program due to the limited availability of tee times, length of stay in port, and the number of golfers who are part of our cruise.
