Yes, there should be a desk of at least one telecom company. However, if your phone can handle eSims its nowadays even easier to get an eSim bundle (e.g. Airalo). You don't need a Sim anymore in that case and also have an integrated VPN.

So the speaker thinks that there no evidence, that you can’t run big business without being controlled and used by the communist party of China? Looks like you don’t know what is communist state and you never lived there… or maybe you are affiliated with them. There’s no doubt, that communist party has its hand on Chinese large international businesses.

Where exactly did I say that? I think I said the opposite: they can but it doesn't necessarily mean they will. If you have eSim functionality you can use eSim software like Airalo. In that case you neither need a local SIM nor a VPN. As far as VPNs are concerned, I've been using LetsVPN lately. It's not even cheap anymore. I'm assuming they just turned the prices in the Norwegian version up by ten thousand percent because I can't imagine anyone in any other country would buy things for those prices. Temu starts with heavily subsidized prices. As soon as you use the platform for a while, the prices go up and you no longer get free shipping below a certain minimum order value. They aim to have prices at 70% of Amazon's but indeed, sometimes they can even be higher than elsewhere.

@ChinaTalkNL
@ChinaTalkNL 4 ай бұрын

Hi Ed, nice talk. yes I still listen to you :) I also read that sometimes Temu sends look alike products which are of poorer quality and sometimes does not ship products that are paid for and getting refunds are difficult. Have you heard this? And what about the talking about the expoited labour that is used to make the products that make them cheaper? And expanding our perspective, what about one of the major driving forces of global warming that is threatening all of us: consumerism? hope you two are well.
@ChinaTalkNL
@ChinaTalkNL 5 ай бұрын
Hi Mark, everything fine here. Hope you are doing well too. Yes, there have been complaints about quality, IP and other issues. In my personal experience, though, I have always been promptly refunded after a complaint (within 24 hours), without the need to return the goods. Temu actually fines the manufacturers 5 times the price in case of quality complaints. They hope this will weed out the excesses. Regarding labour conditions, I don't think that Temu has changed this. These are the same factories that already made stuff for the domestic and global market. I do think that the way Temu pressures the factories, they will use lower grade raw materials or product related ways to lower the cost price. And I fully agree on consumption, which in my opinion is the real problem here. This is what I recently wrote about it, including a bit of good old George Carlin. www.linkedin.com/posts/edsander_more-than-a-year-after-i-started-warning-activity-7171078964365500416-olI0

Pay taxi by cash? I thought China does not use cash any more & all via QR/Alipay, etc. So can cash be used to pay for food, etc as well?

Legally, any business should accept cash. Some might refuse, but if its the only option you have as a foreigners they will normally accept, although you might not get the exact amount in change because they don't have the right bills. There's also still many elderly people that continue to pay in cash. Having said that, installing AliPay on your phone and linking a credit card has become quite east since last summer, so I would recommend that. That option was not available yet when the video was made. (See our video on mobile payment).

First, download Alipay when you are still in your home country. Second, check of your phone works with eSim like Airalo. Then you should have mobile internet (otherwise get a local Sim at the airport). I would advise against using roaming with your provider from home as it will be extremely expensive. You can use Didi in AliPay and most big stations and airports have a designated place for Didi pick-ups nowadays. It can be a bit confusing and chaotic though. Personally, I just take the subways into town, cheaper, easier and often even faster.

@ChinaTalkNL
@ChinaTalkNL 8 ай бұрын
