Braves screwed up trading Jermaine Dye. What a great player he turned out to be.

No pitcher on the planet fielded his position better than Greg Maddux. He might not have looked athletic, but he had unbelievable reflexes and lightning quick hands. He would've made a great doubles player in tennis.

I forgot Gary Carter and Bob Ojeda played on the Dodgers in 1991. They, along with Darryl Strawberry, in 1986, were on the Mets team that tore my guts out as a 9-year-old kid from south of Boston in that 1986 World Series. I feel a little more joy now remembering that they experienced this misery in LA in 1991.

Both Dodgers and Giants must have been happy after the 1993 season when the Braves were moved to the NL East during the 1994 MLB realignment Back in the early 90s the trend was for the California NL West teams to tear each other apart giving the Braves the division. Giants messing with Dodgers chances in 1991 and Dodgers returning the favour in 1993.

LaRussa's biggest mistake was pitching Stottlemyere on short rest. He should have started Alan Benes this game and had Stottlemyere ready for Game 6 if necessary well rested.

We're too far out in the sticks to get cable, so early 95 was when we first got DirecTV on satellite. I watched almost every Braves game in 95. They had the starting rotation (Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Avery), the bullpen (McMichael, Pena, Wohlers, Stanton), the bomb squad (McGriff, Lopez, Justice, Klesko, Chipper), the guys who could hit for average and move runners over (Lemke, Grissom, Blauser), the bench (Mordecai, Smith, Devereux, O'Brien, Kelly). I don't think I went to bed early that whole summer except on off nights.

We should've won the World series in 91, won in 95, and 96. 92 and 99 we weren't as good, but we should've won those 2 for a total of 3 in the 90s

I'll concede the 91 series loss, but how tf does peak maddux, glavine and smoltz lose to an average Yankees team in 96? Still pisses me off to this day.

In this series, the Braves went 26 consecutive scoreless innings until the 9th inning of this game, while the Pirates went scoreless for the last 22 innings of the series. Even with the way pitching is dominating MLB nowadays I doubt we will see anything like this again anytime soon.

the safety lost game (should have never happened as fumble on 1/2 yard line should have been a touchback). Up 21-6. had the ball.....no 2 point conversions back then. safety, free punt then td and its 21-15

Actually that was the first year of the two-point conversion San Diego scoreboard against San Francisco in the super bowl that they never should have played in l this was Marino's last Best shot

I became an Atlanta Braves fan in 1982 (when I was 10 years old). My brother and I were given a hand me down push-button channel 2-13 13 inch television. The Braves were on TBS (channel 8) where I was raised in Arkansas. After some good teams in 82-83...The Braves suffered some lean years from 1984-1990. My friends made fun of me (many of them were Cardinals fans) for sticking with a 'loser'. However, I kept following them (Baseball America and The Sporting News helped keep me informed on their rebuild efforts via The Draft and Minor League System). 1991 was an amazing up and down/emotional season. Back and forth battle with The Dodgers. Then winning Games 6 and 7 against The Pirates with shutouts in both games in Pittsburgh. The Braves fought Minnesota tooth and nail for 7 games. They just couldnt get that clutch hit when needed (especially in Game 7). Still I look back on 1991 as a fond year. I'll never forget that comeback against The Reds when The Braves were down 6-0 after 1 inning late in that season.
