How bizarre to hear them covering Abba, though at least it wasn’t one of the more predictable ones like Waterloo or Dancing Queen. Maybe it was a request from the fans. In their ‘80s heyday, there were the inevitable comparisons with Abba with the Eurovision connection and 2 boys, 2 girls line up. They were asked on the Australian show Countdown whether they minded the comparison and Cheryl said when people compare them to Abba it’s such a huge compliment because you can’t knock Abba with all their success but they’d prefer be known as the first Bucks Fizz rather than the second Abba! On a programme where Cheryl spoke about some of her favourite songs, I think Cheryl chose Chiquitita and said she must be one of the very few people who’s not a huge Abba fan. She said she appreciated them, but they were so perfect. The Winner Takes It All is one of Mike’s all time favourites, he revealed on Razzmatazz. The group recorded Love in a world gone mad, which was also recorded by Agnetha. There was an article praising the group too, saying they weren’t just a KwikSave Abba!

I saw Bucks Fizz when I was about 12, I guess it was a tour in 83. That was in Skegness. I’d love to see The Fizz again now, but I’ve got no one to go with, woe is me!!
