Justin, I appreciated your approach to this review, a mix of philosophy, software development, and functionality. As an older cyclist, I have come a long way since the clicker mounted on my front wheel that I used when I rode cross country. I finally graduated to the Lezyne, and now I have the Wahoo Bolt V2. One of my real frustrations is how the rerouting function works. I cue a lot of tours, and sometimes I want to cut off mileage. Why does the unit always try and take me back to where I left the route? Maybe I have a setting wrong? I just end up turning rerouting off. Other than that, I am happy with the unit, going on 3 years.

I have Raleigh from 70’s and I would say it is rocket science. Cotter pins? Check! Weird non standard bottom bracket? Check! Unfamiliar brand on derailleurs? Check! Other than those it could be easy. Bikes from 80/90’s are just much more easier. They have standards.

As a woman who grew up in the midwest in the 60's & 70;s, I LOVED this video and your contagious joy of restoring these vintage gems. I have a 70's, orange Schwinn Twinn. The chain just broke and local bike shop says they can't fix these old broken chains (small town).. I felt discouraged, came home & found your video - so encouraging that it CAN be done. Any suggestions on how & where to look in Ohio.?
@JustinDoesTriathlon7 күн бұрын
Thanks so much! That's awesome that you have a Twinn! It 100% can be fixed. I know nothing about Ohio but I find it a little suspect that a bike shop can't fix a chain, that's crazy. I found a post on bikeforums from someone in a similar situation to you (linked at the end of comment) Basically, they were told to buy two 5/6 speed bike chains. If you've got the old chain, that's gold, because you know exactly how long to make it. And then all you would need is a chain breaker tool (7-$10 on Amazon.) Try to confirm it with a little more checking of what you've got, but a KMC 5/6 speed chain ($10) and a chain tool ($10) should get you most of the way up and running! I’ve also linked a Park Tool video that will walk you through replacing the chain. You can do it! :D kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJW4gn6MgrV5a6s www.bikeforums.net/classic-vintage/756346-chain-question-my-schwinn-tandem.html

Hi Justin -- thanks so much for the videos. You said your wetsuit is the maximum thickness. So is it a 5mm? Does it restrict movement? I need a wetsuit for the 70.3 IM and I am worried about the open water swim so I want the most buoyant possible. But don't want it restricting swimming movement.
@JustinDoesTriathlon20 күн бұрын
Yeah good question! The Xterra is a 5mm yes, (not 100% 5mm, thinner in the arms, etc, but a good amount of 5mm). I've actually since bought a new Roka suit. The Xterra was fine but with its age it was getting quite delicate and getting small tears every time I put it on. There's more to flexibility than thickness, though in general, the thicker, the less fvlexible it is. I feel like my Roka has better shoulder mobility than my Xterra did (and also, the Roka is a bit thinner in general.) If you're going for bouancy, look for 5mm chest and legs. For most people, it's the legs/hips that really drop down. TBH though, even with my thinner Roka, it feels like swimming with floaties on. They all add noticable flotation vs. nothing. Have fun!
@user-fi5kf1cg2o19 күн бұрын

@JustinDoesTriathlon19 күн бұрын
@@user-fi5kf1cg2o You got it! FWIW I didn't mean to imply that the Roka is more bouyant or anything, and I'm also comparing a brand new suit vs a suit from... 2010 I think. So it's possible there are much better suits out there. I just kinda picked one at random. :P IT feels good though.

I run and bike a ton, so I have no concerns there, but the swimming part has me all nervous and anxious. I don't want to end up as fish food a half mile into the swim, or suffer a panic attack while out there. You've been great, thanks.

Nicely done. That bike was made in Japan by Panasonic. In many ways, they were superior to the US made Schwinns of that time. For years, at least well into the mid 80's, the seat post binder bolts on Panasonic branded bikes still had the Schwinn "S" on them. The only minor goof I noticed was the crescent washers on the brake center bolts, The shallower ones are used on the fork, the deeper ones on the caliper bridge.

I'm a slow restoration guy myself. Throw an hour or two into it a night over a month or two. My 2c, depends how you're going to ride it. Sunny cruiser around the neighborhood? Keep the stock wheels. Anything at speed where you might actually 'need' brakes? Probably something with alu. hoops. The steel wheels are just not great. Brakes are probably the biggest change in bikes in the last few decades imo. Hell, I just built up bike with downtubes, but I'd never seriously ride chrome steel rim brakes.

Hey! Question about tire clearance - is it really only 28mm? What tire size are you using and how wide it really is on those Zipp wheels?
@JustinDoesTriathlonАй бұрын
Yeah I wouldn't go wider than 28s, it's a real 28c clearance. I have actually since sold the Zipps and moved to Light Bicycle AR465s. I can throw some calipers on to check the actual measurement, but yeah, I wouldn't plan on running over 28s. That said... The interesting thing is that their ADHX (not the AHDX45) is verrrryyyy close to the exact same geo. If you’re looking for an ADH but want wider, that’s probably your move.
@pogoking4000Ай бұрын
@@JustinDoesTriathlon Please do the measurement if you can. For example Conti GP5000 S TR 28 measures >29mm on a 19mm IW rim, which in itself is considered narrow for today’s standards. Yet Time markets the ADH with Zipp wheels, which are either 23 or 25mm IW. Are they using 25C tires? A 28C tire will blow up to at least 30mm on these rims 🤔

I do some design work with a huge interest in oldschool design from the 1920's to the 2000's and man, the weirdest things can date something so perfectly. Everything from a man's briefcase, their bike, the pen they use and the arrangement of their livingroom can be dated to just a few years. This bike just screams the late 70's. You can tell they tried to get away from some choices that stayed from the 60's. It's difficult to decide whether something is designed that way because an engineer saw no other solution, or because they or someone on the team was an artist and understood design that was contemporary at the time. Really interesting stuff. Fantastic video, loved every second.

Bought these for my jogs and even convinced my works HR department to let me wear these. It's been such a uplifting feeling being able to listen to music I enjoy vs the same 5 radio stations day in day out. The 10 hour battery life is honestly more than this, I imagine 10 hours at Max Volume. These are so immensely comfortable. I'm still able to hear perfectly fine after 4-10 hour day. Don't have to worry about not hearing external sounds at all. Fork truck, pedestrians, people speaking to me, other environmental sounds, etc. Past that if I do need to wear hearing protection like ear plugs I can do that yet still hear music or a podcast/audio book etc. Honestly, the price tag is worth it in every aspect. Charging time is under an hour which is splendid. Even comes with a nice carry case.
