Are there any screen resistors that can be installed to this amp that can handle both 5881 and el34 ? that way if you want to go back to either tube type there's no need to mod again

The simple answer is no. Marshall told me the output transformers on this amp is meant for EL34’s so changing the screen resistors to 1k will be the correct way

There are amp techs that swear up and down that the brand or manufacturer of caps doesn't matter. They claim you can replace any foil cap with any foil cap and they sound basically the same.
@conjering Жыл бұрын
I disagree, What do you think?
@truescotsman4103 Жыл бұрын
@@conjeringI also disagree. I have two 2204s a 77 and a 79. One with mustard caps one with red mallory box caps both stock. The one with mustard caps just sounds better in the preamp. Both sound about the same in the power section. The the 79 has the low input converted into a poweramp in. I never liked the one with box caps so I just use it as a slave with my rack processor splitting stereo.
@eyedunno8462 Жыл бұрын
The wiring is fine, it appears some effort went into twisting and tucking them away for noise cancellation. The biggest issue by far appears to be the corrosion and rusting throughout the amp - any grounding is potentially compromised if the chassis is no longer a solid grounding material, leading to arcing, sparking and large filter caps exploding in a dramatic fashion. No way. I wouldn't have worked on it unless it was being transplanted to a new, non-compromised chassis
